I have just discovered that CE Bright emmigrated to SA about 1900 with his parents and family. He joined the Army and I presume fought in teh Boer War.
His father was Isaac Bright, mother Elizabeth Newill and siblings George, Elizabeth, William and Sarah Ann.
Any help researching this line would be gratefully recieved

Hello Frank, I'm a bit late coming in on this one too.
The first point is that there are no Brights listed in the National SA Archives as having died in SA.
Secondly the only Bright that is listed as having served in an SA regiment during the Boer War is a 28727 Charles with the Rand Rifles enlisting 17 June 1901.
Thirdly the photgograph does not show a soldier in a Boer War uniform.
All in all my best guess is that the soldier served in WW1 so your CE probably returned to England or America, Canada or USA

Hi I found a document in this archive when I typed in the name. Try this link. http://www.national.archsrch.gov.za/sm300cv/smws/sm200gi.
Then click on the RSA repository box, when it opens type in Bright Charles and enter. A list of documents will appear, just click on Result Summary.
Cheers Derek

I visit the PMB Archives on a regular basis so can look at the MSCE 16297/1930 file for you. You will need to order it through Thabani at pmbarchives[at][/blue]kzndac.gov.za. They currently require a minimum of two dayas to process your order so for me to look at it on Wednesday, get in early ASAP.(Replace [at] with @)

Thank you all for the responses to this query, I have been very lax in responding, not just this but to many others elsewhere. I suffer ill health but that should never be an excuse for my laxity and I apologise to all.
There is news on Charles Edmund Bright:
He sailed to SA not with his family as I was first informed but as a serving soldier:
Name: C E Bright
Campaign or Service: South Africa - Second Boer War
Service Date: 1899-1902
Service Location: South Africa
Regiment or Unit Name: 8th Hussars
Regimental Number: 3242
Whilst there he married Miss Bella White fathered several children. On his return to England with his Regiment he tasked someone (probably a fellow soldier) with sending a telegram to Bella stating he had fallen overboard at sea and drowned.
His SA descendants believe he did marry a second wife named Elizabeth but I cannot discover a record for this marriage.
In England he married once more on 7th December 1915 to a Miss Nora Gilmour and fathered two more children:
John H Bright
Mollie Bright
...he served once again during the First War and died peacefully(?) at home in Yorkshire in 1927
