Title: TOLLERFIELD/TOLEYFIELD b. Swanage abt 1758
Post by: Tollersearcher on Thursday 11 November 10 15:17 GMT (UK)
Hi,

I'm trying to find out more about John TOLLERFIELD/TOLEYFIELD - in particular who his parents were.

According to IGI I know following:

Born ~1758 in Swanage
Married Elizabeth SEAMER/SEYMORE in Studland 10/8/1783
Buried 2/7/1841 in Swanage.

Unfortunately there is no record of his birth in the Baptism transcripts for Swanage (that I can find online) around 1758 and the IGI database doesn't have any information regarding his parents.

Any help would be gratefully received.

Many thanks,

Paul

Although the burial gives his age as 83, the 1841 census, only a few months earlier, gives it as 75-79, so the 1758 date may only be approximate.

Although he died in Swanage, he had at least three of his children baptised in Corfe Castle (John 1791; Becca 1795; William 1798) and William stayed on there, so you will need to search most of the Studland Peninsular.

Have you seen the reference to a Settlement Examination (PE/COC/OV 188/84) for John Tolleyfield, labourer? It is dated 28 Oct 1791, the time when his first child was being baptised. It is part of the Corfe Castle papers at the Dorset History Centre in Dochester:

It will name the parish he came from.
