Title: Shorncliffe Barracks Folkestone 1901
Post by: mandyweller on Tuesday 09 November 10 19:32 GMT (UK)
I am trying to trace my great grandfather's military history I have located him on 1901 census listed as a soldier at shornecliffe barrracks in folkestone but I don't know how I can find out which regiment he was attached to  or his army number as it is not noted on the census I know that by the time of the 1911 census he had left the army and is listed as labourer but I would really like to know more about his army career if anyone has any ideas please I am very new to this so probably missing something really obvious  ;) His name was william bickley born in shrewsbury 1873 or 4 married to Kate Phillips 1902 I think

Hi,

Welcome to RoostChat, you will find plenty of people willing to help you here.

It looks as if your man was in the Royal Artillery, his Regimental number was 12011, his Army records are on Ancestry, there are seven images of his records.

He married Kate Emily Phillips at Elham register Office the 18th. May 1902.

Ancestry is a subscription site.

Just to add, he was still in the Army in 1911, if you look again at the census you will see that as well as labourer he has given 23rd Royal Field Artillery as his employer.
