Title: Do you live at Thursby?
Post by: esdel on Sunday 07 November 10 18:15 GMT (UK)
We are looking for a kind person able to visit Thursby churchyard and read the gravestones.
Two patches are of interest, just a few yards apart
The first group of five people are children of Sir Thomas Bouch (he is in Edinburgh)
They are William, Elizabeth, Richard, Ann, James Bouch.
To find them go behind the church near a holly tree. Approx 15 yards from the garden gate, third row from the wall and second stone from the right when facing the church

The other group, just a few yards away,  include Adam Bouch and his wife Sarah Graham and other as yet unknown members of the Bouch family

The deaths were around 1850 so I hope the headstones will be legible.
I am hoping to find clues that connect these two groups of Bouch people buried so close together in this country churchyard.

Hi Esdel.
We went to Carlisle today, thursby is on the way, so we stopped to have a look for you.
Bad news is some teenagers tried to burn the church down about a year ago, so access to some of the graves was not possible because the church is being rebuilt. We found Adam Bouch's grave but no others round about.
There were some archeologists on site recovering remains for reburial, where a new water pipe was being laid. I asked them about the other grave and they found it in the part of the cemetery where there was no access but they kindly took some photographs for me.
Would you like me to post the photo's?
Carol

I will post one of each although I do have a couple more.
Here is William.
I will go back to the churchyard when work finished and see if I can find other Bouch graves.

I do not think these give you any info to form a connection but perhaps when all the graves are accessable I will be able to find other graves for you.

Thats ok.
I was talking to Kevin Bouch's wife and she was saying that it was Cephus that started the newsagents actually as a grocery store. Interestingly Kevin's son is called Adam.

I live in Thursby and I have  transcription of all the old gravestones in St Andrew's churchyard - I can confirm that there are no other Bouch gravestones in the old part of the churchyard, those are the only two.

Oh Jady, what a pity. The repairs after the vandalism are finished and there is no trace of the two stes of Bouch graves of my earlier post
