I am searching for the family of my ggggrandfather John Mckenzie. His family was involved in the Jacobite rebellion in Scotland and they fled to Ireland .They settled in the Wicklow Mountains then ended up in Sligo. This is where John and his brother James were sentenced and sent to Australia in 1807. They came out on the Duke of Portland. On the ships list they were listed as KINSEY. As the convict/ships records were destroyed I have been unable to trace the family. Would anyone have any ideas how to find the family??? Would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Susan. ???

Hi cookiemontage,
Have you tried, as starting points in Australia:
State Records of New South Wales:
http://www.records.nsw.gov.au/state-archives/indexes-online/indexes-online
Convict index, there is a James and John (Duke of Portland) Kinsey listed.
and;
Registry of BMD New South Wales:
http://www.bdm.nsw.gov.au/familyHistory/searchHistoricalRecords.htm
and last but not least;
The Australian Resources board on this website, also, put a post up on the Australia board with as much information on your Kinsey men.
Good luck and all the best,
Janet.
