Title: St Anne's Soho
Post by: swinsor on Saturday 06 November 10 12:11 GMT (UK)
Does anyone know if the registers of this parish are available either online or in CD or book form?

I have found many of my Thompson ancestors baptised and married at this church on the IGI / Family Search and would like to check the entries and do a thorough search for other ancestors, and for burials.  Also, do any records of monumental inscriptions exist?

Thanks.

Stephen

There are some records for St Anne in the London Parish Records on Ancestry, but I'm not sure how extensive the coverage is.

I'm sure the London experts will be able to advise you further, but if not, Westminster Archives may be able to help.

Hi

The registers for St Ann's Soho are deposited at Westminster Archives. The Ancestry digitalisation of deposited parish registers is between the London Metropolitan Archives and the Guildhall Library, not Westminster Archives. What it does include is Bishops Trancripts held at the LMA. These were yearly copies of registers made and sent to the local bishop. They were not always done by each church, may not have survived and may not be a full copy of the register. They can have errors since it was an arduous task to copy out the church registers for the year.

By tradition marriages usually took place in the bride's parish.

One of Westminster Archives information sheets is on monumental inscriptions held for certain churches (the website appears to be down at present so I can't give the link)

Hi Valda,

It sounds as though I need to contact Westminster Archives.

Thanks for the info.

Hi Stephen

Westminster Archives website is back online. This is the link to their monumental inscription leaflet

http://www.westminster.gov.uk/services/libraries/archives/family-history/information-sheets-06-to-10/

Some BTs for St Ann's as Ruskie says are online on Ancestry, which offers a free two week trial. You can also access the Ancestry library edition through many county libraries which have a subscription.

Hi Valda,

Thanks for the link, it provides some useful information about their holdings.

I will also have a look at the freebie suggested!

Thank you all for this thread!
I thought I was going mad for a while, my third great grandfather was from St Ann's and I always wondered why I could never find anything to do with his birth, his brother's birth as well and if they had any siblings.
Now I know where to start, thanks once again!

Alex.

Things have moved on since this thread was started. Many of the parish registers for St Anne Soho are now on FindMyPast (index and images), in their Westminster databases.
