Hi janine,
He married Ellen Power (daughter of James & Ellen Comerford???), also born Tipperary.
We think he went to New Zealand first, then Hamilton Vic working on railways and clearing the Gippsland line. He selected two blocks at Fumina, now known as Fumina South, lived in a mud house, living on potoates and onions thrown onto burning wood from the bush. They had eight children, Mary, Elizabeth, James, Tot, Michael, Nell, Clem and Jack. Their later house still stands at Fumina (heritage protected). I have a photo of him in his later years. We can fill in his later life in Australia, it's the Irish part that has us all stumped.
Cheers,
Rebecca  :) :)

John's birth is before the start of full civil registration in Ireland (1864) so you will need to check what records are available for his parish to see what details, if any, are available. Do you know where in Co. Tipperary your Kealy family came from ?

see : Introduction to Irish Records (http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,442233.0.html)

What years were Michael jnr. & William born ?

the civil registrations of Ballingarry, Tipperary show Michael, Patrick & William born to Michael Kealy & Mary Heffernan. No sign of John however. The birth details for the above can be purchased on www.rootsireland.ie or from www.groireland.ie

I've just purchased two wrong birth details, I'm getting no matches in the advanced search, what details did you use? The more detail I type in, I get no matches, and fewer details the wrong matches  ???

To see the extracted records on familysearch which mention Michael & Patrick, try this link

 Births, 1864-1881 (http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#p=collectionDetails&c=fs%3A1584963)

Select the advanced search option, enter last name Kealy, father Michael, mother Mary Heffernan (see screenshot below)

You can use the reference numbers included in the results to help locate the correct civil index references needed to order birth certs. These will show a bit more details such as place of birth, residence of the family, father's occupation, etc. Ballingarry as mentioned on the records could be the sub-registration district rather than the actual town.

Ordering Certs from GRO Roscommon (http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,433040.0.html)
Details included on a Birth Cert (http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,433041.0.html)

Hi,
Just to confuse the matter I am a Heffernan ggrandaughter of Michael Heffernan. and Margaret Hennessy. Who came to Australia from Tipperary on The Lord Stanley in 1856. I believe this Heffernan Kealy could be a connection to mine and will follow this chat with interest. Oh have you tried the immigrant ships list from Tipperary.

this info. below is your people on the ship.

HEFFERNAN   Margaret      1850   32   Tipp / Tipp   John / Alice  HENNESSY   nil given xx   {wife of Michael,38 + 6 children}   Ship =   Lord Stanley
HEFFERNAN   Michael      1850   38   Tipp / Tipp   Thomas / Margaret   both dead   Brother = Thomas   Ship =   Lord Stanley

This info. was from a sheet I came across some 8 years ago just by chance.

There is only 1 Kealy listed .......
KEALEY   Mary      1855   24   (Tipp)   James/Helen  LYNCH   both dead *With husband =   Michael,20,of Kilkenny .  A sister in   Brisbane .    ship = Conrad
They married on the 6th Feb 1855 just before they went to Australia. She was Lynch.
Kilkenny and Tipperary are next to each other.
The marriage was in the Parish of Kilfane Kilkenny, this is to the east of Ballingarry Tipperary.
Her sister is too hard to find, as she may have been married when she travelled.
This Kealy may not be yours.

I do know that john heffernans father and mother are Michael Kealy and Mary Heffernan (Kealy). I don't have details about their births and deaths. And I'd like to know what boat John Heffernan Kealy  and his wife Ellen Catherine (power) came on and when and where it arrived at.

According to some trees Catherine and Michael married in Australia.
I have sent you a Private Message.
The list I sent you is only up to 1865.

Hi,
I found him
Arrived in Australia, 2nd September 1875 on the ship called Juliet.
Now I worked this out by the date of his marriage on that tree I saw.
There was 3 John Kealy.
the other 2 arrived after the marriage.
please check this in the Australian Library as they have more info.
