Do you have a first name for your Erringtons?
It would be easier to search!

Have you seen    www.northofthetyne.co.uk/ponteland    ? There's a reference to the 'Erringtons' re history of the place. You may have seen the actual sign if you've visited the pub. If link doesn't work google history of blackbird pub ponteland
It looks great (tho' it is described as a gastro pub elsewhere).

The only references I can find re the period in question are

Kelly's Directory of Northumberland
1894
Black Bird Hotel (commercial house), William Bowes Pyle, Ponteland, Newcastle
1914
Black Bird Hotel, Robert Deuchar Ltd, Ponteland, Newcastle
