Title: Colliss family Warwickshire
Post by: seuro on Tuesday 02 November 10 05:35 GMT (UK)
I'm tracing Colliss family Samuel b 1799 Warwickshire, m Catherine Bloomer, children Joseph (transported to Australia 1842 for stealing shoes, my descendant), Emma b 1828, Hannah b 1832, Alfred b 1836. Alfred (gold engraver married Ann ? milliner, lived Southwark 1861. Would like to go further back if possible, and know what happened to Joseph's siblings, if any came to Australia?
Rebecca :)

Hi Karenlee :)

The entry for Mary Ann on F/S Pilot is a bit confusing but as she appears in 1851 Census I think it has been mistranscribed and marriage info confirms DOB .
Christened 16 Aug 1820
Birth 30 May 1830

Trish.

Hey Trish

Yeah, I noticed that one, but considered it impossible for someone to have been baptised prior to birth.... ;D ;D ;D

Family search pilot has a marriage for an Emma COLLISS to a Thomas GRIFFITH 1850 Birmingham that might be a possible... no parents mentioned tho

I dont think so.
There is a Marriage on FreeBMD;
Hannah COLLISS, Dec 1852, West Bromwich, 6b 836
To either;
John GRIFFITHS
Walter KENDRICK
I wonder if they could have Married Brothers?

I will look later but after a quick search could match them up in Census entries :-\

EDIT; well done Pam in finding the Griffiths in 1861 :)

1861 Census William and Mary A TODD have with them;
William, 20, Military Ornament Maker
Joanna, 18, Metal Button Maker
+ a Neice Visiting.
As these Children were born before William and Mary Married it looks like he was a Widower.
William and Mary seem to have not had any Children together.

Trish mentioned a daughter Catherine in the 1851 census?

Just checking, Hannah married John or Thomas Griffiths?
Emma married Thomas or James Griffiths?
Emma was the only one to have children?

I had hoped Joseph was reunited with some family in Australia, but it doesn't seem so. He did name the first of his 13 children Mary Ann, so had a fond memory of his older sister?

I know it is a bit confusing but without M/Certs we are just going by what we can find from FreeBMd and Census entries.

I cant find anything on Catherine after 1851 census. It is possible she emigrated or married with name mistranscribed or just under Kate etc, so it is hard to find.
