I have the birth certificate of my grandmother, Catherine Flanagan which shows her mother as Maria Eustace, her father as William Flanagan, watchmaker in 1877. Birth registered in district Kilcullen, superintendant registrar's district of Naas. Which church records should I go to, to search for possible death entries for these great grandparents? I will be in Kildare on Wednesday this week so any suggestions would be helpful. I know Catherine was one of 22 children but only have the names, Owen, Charlotte and Patrick as some brothers and sisters. How do I find her siblings and their birth records. I know they were Catholic. Does anyone know of the Eustace family in Kildare which may relate here?

what town or townland was the birth in ?
Few RC registers include deaths, so you may be better to try for Civil certs for the deaths of Maria & William
It's also generally simpler to search RC records in the National Library, as not all parishes hold their historic records or allow access to them without special arrangement (some of the originals are very fragile).

p.s. RC records could be available in a library in Co. Kildare... worth checking out...

Thanks for that. Kilcullen is the only place mentioned as residence of informant. The library, is that the county library at Newbridge - that's on my list. Also is it easy to just go check the records at the National Library. How do I go about looking at Civil certs, what are these?

sorry - not familiar with Co. Kildare libraries... I'll leave that particular question for someone else to answer
You cannot view certs unless you order them from the GRO. You can visit their research room in Dublin (Abbey Street), where you can search the index books, order and collect certs once you find possible matches. You can also search the BMD index in advance on familysearch and use the details to order certs by post (or bring the references with you to the the GRO and collect the required certs)- see : Introduction to Irish Records (http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,442233.0.html)

to view RC microfilms in the National Library all you need is a newspaper pass. These are available at the desk on the entrance hall (You dont need to sign up). You leave your bag, coat, phone etc in a locker room and go to the RC film room (up one flight of stairs and to the right). Select a free desk with a microfilm reader and note the number. Go up another floor to the main library hall and fill in the order form for the parish you need (Pos reference number ) and include the desk number you chose earlier. You film will be delivered to you when ready. Most registers are in sections or volumes and have separate sections within each for marriages or baptisms in date order. Many have a basic surname index for each section. (note some parts of these may be written in latin)
Civil records are 'certs' like the birth record you have - these are state records, rather than church records, and include BMDs from the start of full registration in 1864.

The film number for Killcullen parish is Pos. 6484
The records include baptisms back to 1777, and marriages back to 1786, although there are a few quite large gaps in the registers

there should be two other locations mentioned on the cert - one under the 'date and place of birth' column and the other under 'name & dwelling place of father'

Best to check online sources before you go- IGI (www.familysearch.org) lists some children of William & Maria (Eustace) Flanagan:
1. Joseph born 18 June 1874 Co. Kildare
2. Catherine born 26 Nov.1877 Kilcullen, Co. Kildare
3. Christina born 15 Dec.1878 Co. Kildare
