Hi
Erasmus Edward or Edward Erasmus Knight is my GG Grandfather, he is a book canvasser (seller) in latter year census entries, born Deveonport. He married a French girl Mary Ann although census entries have her as born in Jersey. I think he had a previous wife or even maybe 2 previous wives. He also appears to have had various occupations. Does anybody have any information.
love to hear from any connections.
Susie.

Hi
For tracing purposes - his birthyear was 1818 as per 1881 census and Mary Ann was b 1832 Jersey on the same census
1871 census also shows Mary as b St Helier and eldest child in 1871 was Edward aged 5 b Bromley
There is an 1847 marriage on freebmd for Edward Erasmus Knight - too many possible spouses to determine the right one but would probably be his second marriage
The IGI Pilot website shows a marriage between Erasmus Edward Knight and Elizabeth Leddra on 23.5.1837 in Stoke Damerel

Just found him on the 1861 census - wife was Susan so 1847 marriage was to Susan Clinnick b 1831 Liskeard Cornwall

No obvious marriage to Mary so perhaps they married in Jersey

Hi Carole W
Thanks for trying, that's the information i have as well. Mary Ann seems a bit of a mystery woman.

Hello,
I had hit a brick wall, but I may be on the right track now. I have a Edward James Knight b 1847 to Edward Erasmus and Elizabeth Knight nee Leddra. I believe may be connected to this post, dont know much about him.
He was last known as Edward James Knight in the 1851 census, after that time he was known as Edward John Patterson.
I hope that this is correct.

Hi Sarah
Wow that message was a long time back, I didn't even remember my password, goes to show how well the system works.
I have information on Edward Erasmus Knight, but I didn't realise he had another son with Elizabeth Leddra. He must have been born Jan/Oct 1847 as his 2nd marriage took place in November 1847, so presumably Elizabeth died at nearly the same time. How are you related to him?
If you have a birth certificate for your Edward James does it say what Edward Erasmus's occupation is or where they were living?
I am descended from his 3rd 'marriage' to Mary Ann Ahier, my mystery GGgrandmother, not really a mystery I just can not find a birth or marriage for her.
What information do you need? I think I still have an email address for a descendant of his daughter Elizabeth born to Elizabeth Knight nee Leddera.
If you want more info on him could you send your email address to me (not sure how you do that as you can not post email addresses here) then I will send the pdf I have for him.
