Hi All
I am looking for info on the ancestors of my wife's grandfather.
GF is Angus Mills, b. 1 Aug 1908, Cathedral St, Glasgow, Scotland.
Some of GF's siblings are (in no particular order) Margaret, John, Jenny (Jennifer?), Grace, Isa and Ann
Angus' parent are John Mills, m. Margaret McVean. That is all the info I have on parents. Ancestry.co.uk shows a partial hint that they might have lived in Wigan during 1881 Census, so I am after any info to verify that. Also interested in marriage details, and their parents etc.
Certainly by 1908 they were in Glasgow... so perhaps this is better placed on that board, but for the "hint"...
Thanks in advance for any info found... perhaps the John and Margaret Mills listed in the 1881 Wigan census aren't the GF's parents... but I just don't know.

Have you checked freebmd for a Mills/McVean marriage in England
If none found - have you checked Scotlands People for it? It will show their ages and their respective parents names plus mothers maiden name

I have just done a basic search on SP for a marriage between those 2 names and it shows one match
SP is a paysite so you will need to purchase some credits to get more info

Hi Kevin,
The John & Margaret Mills you mention in Wigan in 1881 have a daughter Margaret A. b. 1870 in Wigan. I checked the family in 1871 in Wigan, they have daughter Margaret Ann and another daughter Rebecca b. 1856 Wigan. In 1861 they are in Ince, Wigan with daughter Rebecca.
I don't think this is "your" John & Margaret Mills. The only child with a name that fits is Margaret, they don't appear to have any children that match the other names you mention in earlier censuses, and as they are aged 46 & 45 respectively in 1881 I doubt they would biologically have time for all those other children, especially a son b. 1908 ;D
