Hi, I've discovered that a relative drowned in the Crinan canal in 1882 according to the death certificate and have been trying to find out more. Would local papers have reported this? I can't seem to find any archive material.
I'd be grateful for your thoughts!

Hi Meggy,
You could try searching the Newspaper Indexes on Am Baile, they may have something there:
http://www.ambaile.org.uk/en/newspapers/index.jsp
It's a free service, and a great resource - the Inverness Library will send electronic copies of any article on request

Hi Meggy
I, too, have a relative drowned in 1882 in the Crinan Canal. I'm wondering if we have a family connection. Was your relative Julia McLean/McInnes/Campbell?

Hi Jnt,
My Gt Gt Grandmother was Julia Campbell, married to Neil McCallum.
Does this tie in with your relative?

Hi Meggy
From your reply I see I must have the wrong death record for my Julia. She was born Julia McLean, married Malcolm McInnes in 1825, then remarried (when widowed) a Hugh Campbell.
As no parents were listed on the death cert I wrongly assumed the McCallum may have been incorrect. When I found that cert a couple of nights ago and your message I thought it was worth making contact.
If you are sure she is connected to you I am afraid we have no connection.
I will have to delve further to see if I can find a death record for my Julia.
Thanks for your prompt reply. I hope you had a Happy Christmas.
Cheers from Oz
