I am looking for birth/baptism information on MATTHEW FISHER of Yarncombe Devon. All available census show him in Yarncombe but the 1861 census mentions birth as Kings Nympton. Birth year approximately 1803 to 1807.
I've searched Hugh Wallis' site and can find no record. I would like to know if anyone else may have this information?
His wife Grace (Hancock) was born in Tawstock possibly around 1809 1810. Would love confirmation of her birth/baptism also.
Any links or helpful information is appreciated as the Canadian/US family tree is completed.

Not sure if you mean Yarcombe or Yarnscombe, but either way you will probably need make use of the Devon Record Office's research service. See http://www.devon.gov.uk/record_office.htm for details. The same is true for King's Nympton.

I meant Yarnscombe, thanks for the link.
Just a chuckle from an American. I couldn't find the right place on the website until I finally realized in UK it would be an enquiry form.
Thanks again.

?Possible on the IGI (Individual Record) there is listed the following:
Grace Hancock
Christened: 18.3.1804 Newton St Petrock, Devon, England
Father: Peter Hancock
Mother: Rebecca Unknown
I think you will find that Newton St Petrock is near to Yarnscombe.

Priscilla,
Thanks a bunch.
I did check the IGI but must have missed this one. I'll do more research and see if this is possibly my Grace Hancock.
On the 1861 census she lists her birthplace as Tawstock and her husband lists his as King's Nympton which from the Devon map I have shows Yarnscombe as half way between their birthplaces.
However, the date is certainly within the possible so I'll hang onto the info as I continue searching.
Thank you again for your help,
Barbara Tracey

Thank you Deb,
I have a feeling that I'm really really close. Apparently, from the map George Nympton is close to King and even Queen Nympton. This may be him.
I've just started the search in UK and Devon has, to my American ears, some confusing town names. :) This from a woman who lives on DAHL st (heavily settled by Swedes) off the Conawango Creek near Onondaga street. ;D
Can you tell me if you were using family search.org or hugh wallis site?

Hi Barb
Nice place names LOL ;D
I used IGI- Family Search
I noticed In one of the censuses that Matthew was living next door to another Fisher family.
I wonder if they are related. I will investigate.
If you would like me to give you the details of Children of Henry and Rachel, let me know.

That information looks fantastic. I'm looking through IGI now, thanks to your lead.
In 1861 census (I think it was) Matthew was working as a miller and living near his brother (Sam?) who had employed several of his children as servants and laborers. It looks like Sam was the one who inherited/married into/bought a large farm in the area.
In fact Matthew is my 3gg-grandfather. The names Thomas, Henry, and Sam re-occur regularly in the family.
Yes, please send any info you find. It is a great starting point.
Thanks,
Barb
