Hello,
I wonder if anyone here can help me.
Are you related to or do you have any connection/information about,
Robert G B Harrison, seaman, b.1911 Newport, Monmouthshire?
Robert was married to Enid Y Evans and they had at least one child, Pamela, born in early 1943, just after his death in late 1942.
I am researching the story of a ship wreck, the loss of the Garthpool, (a four masted square rigged barque, last deep water sailing ship to fly the British Flag) which struck the reefs off the Cape Verde Islands on November 11th, 1929.
All the crew survived and they shared a bit of an adventure for several weeks on the islands; one of the passengers was my great grandfather, Christopher Bedford Steel, on board for the experience of the voyage.
I am working on discovering who each of the crewmen were, where they came from, their experiences and what became of them after the Garthpool adventure.
I have already been in contact with numerous relatives of the last Garthpool crew; I would love to discover any information about Robert G B Harrrison, especially any notes/diary entries/anecdotes regarding the Garthpool story.
I also hope to discover a photo of him, as I have a growing collection of crew photos and I may well be able to identify him in my collection.
Any information would be most appreciated.
I look forward to hearing from any forum members,
Thank you
Bye for now,
