Title: Robert Smith abt 1816 completed
Post by: madhu on Sunday 17 October 10 18:33 BST (UK)
Robert Smith was RESIDING in Coaley at the time of his marriage to Mary Ann White in 1842. On the marriage certificate it says Jesse Smith of Coaley was his father.  My cousin says there is no evidence that Jesse was his father but that Joshua Smith might have been. Joshua and Jesse were cousins. Jesse married Elizabeth Evans in Cam in1800.
Joshua was married to Jane Shearwood in 1793. I dont know who her other children were if any. If she had perhaps died, after his birth sometime around 1816 he could have been brought up by Jesse.
Could someone help us to work out this puzzle? Thanks

I second that thanks, Dave

Is the Bristol Mercury at the Gloucester County Records Office? Where did you find it and is there a reference number we can quote in our source citations?

Catherine

Hi Catherine

I think there's more than one collection of the Bristol Mercury - there's certainly some in Bristol Library and the British Library Newspaper Collection. The Gloucester Record Office web page (http://www.gloucestershire.gov.uk/index.cfm?articleid=22725) has a link to a document giving useful information about the whereabouts of newspapers.

The easiest way to get to a reasonable quantity of these papers is via the Gale Collection of 19th Century Newspapers. This is on-line and usually accessible using your membership number with your own local library. Not all libraries offer this though - it depends on county. I'm sending you a PM  ;D

Regards
