Looking for a spouse for Frederick Arthur Lathan, born 1888 in South Shields. Appears to have moved to Bywell, Horsley according to the 1901 census. However, can't find him now.
Any help would be most appreciated.

Looking for a spouse for Frederick Arthur Lathan, born 1888 in South Shields.
Did you check on freeBMD? http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/cgi/search.pl
Possible marriage, 1st quarter 1921. Lanchester 10a, 667. Frederick A. Lathan married either Norena Thompson or Isabel Wilson.
A search on the Durham Registrar's website http://nd.durham.gov.uk/gro/newgro.nsf/search?open&C0776195260426042009 shows he married Norena Thompson.

His brother Marmaduke (Duke) was in the US (Duluth Minnesota)and married and returned. Perhaps others from this family did the same. I do see a few Fred Lathans coming and going on ships.

Hello
He attested on 1st February 1915, in Newcastle, to join the Kings Own Scottish Borderers. The regimental number that he is recorded under is 18119. I think he was transferred to the Machine Gun Corps in 1916 (number 76641) and he rose to the rank of CSM. In 1919 he volunteered for an extra year of service and he was finally discharged on 31st March 1920.
On 13th August 1926, Fred Lathan, aged 38, Engineer and Mrs Lathan, aged 40, both of Croft Cottage, Horsley on Tyne, sailed from Southampton to New Zealand on board the “Ionic”
His wife seems to have been originally called Norena Nesbitt Thompson. On 2nd July 1951 Mrs Norena N Lathan, aged 65, sailed (alone) from London to Wellington, New Zealand on board the “Rangitiki”. Her last address in UK is shown as The Bungalow, Lanchester, Durham.

Hi
If you look at the free index of historical BMDs for NZ www.bdmhistoricalrecords.dia.govt.nz you will see:
1941/17859 Lathan Frederick Arthur 52Y
You can order this - check on the website but I think it may be best to get the historical electronic print out as this will have the most info. As you will see from elsewhere on the website, NZ death certs have a lot of info.
You can also see if there are any entries of interest in the newspapers - again free - on Paperspast
http://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz/cgi-bin/paperspast
Good luck,
Matilda

ps I suspect that John James Thompson married Elizabeth Pallister in 1873 but it needs to be checked. There is an Elizabeth Pallister, of the correct age, born at Lanchester, on the earlier censuses and I think that her parents are Thomas Pallister and Isabella Nesbitt.
