Hello Margaret,
Usually local libraries have a lookup facility. Why not email Townsville Library and give them Ralph Grantley Gibbs details from Townsville Bulletin.
library[at]townsville.qld.gov.au <library[at]townsville.qld.gov.au>
or alternatively you can ask for a lookup on The Ryerson website
http://ryersonindex.net/search.php
GIBBS Ralph Grantley Funeral notice 05DEC2006 Funeral late of Garbut, formerly of Dunedin, New Zealand Townsville Bulletin 02DEC2006

Not much information from this Notice :(
Townsville Bulletin, Saturday December 2, 2006
Funeral Notice (there is no separate death notice)
GIBBS, Ralph Grantley Late of 6 Gorden St, Garbutt and formerly of Dunedin NZ.
Relatives and friends invited to a service on Tues 5 December at the Chapel of Morleys Funeral Home, cnr Hugh St and Martinez Ave, Townsville.
The Probate notice states he was resident at 2/6 Gorden St Garbutt, retired labourer. He died 17 November 2006. The Public trustee of Queensland (Townsville) would be distributing the estate. No other persons mentioned.
Somewaht of a gap between death and funeral. There is no mention of where he was to be buried/cremated. you could probably find the funeral home in the White Pages (phone directory). Some undertakers are very helpful in letting you know who arranged the funeral and the interment/cremation details; some won't tell you much!

Judith,
Thank you for that information as you say not much.
We always hope to get other family members from such notices not so lucky this time.
he was from New Zealand but no notices here so only presume all his family are in queensland.

AS I live in Townsvile, I shall contact the cemetery and see if he was buried there if not I shall check the Crematory.
I did wonder the time difference between death and burial also??? Perhaps he had died at home at the body was discovered untill later, this unfortunately happens at lot.

Hi Jenn,
Thank you so much for all the information you have given me.Unfortunately it looks like he was over there by himself as his wife died in 2004 in Dunedin.
There was the possibility that he may have been visiting Family but not sure.?????
Margaret.

I am Ralph Grantley Gibbs's neice and was wondering where your connection with Ralph is. I have done a little research in various parts of the family but unfortunately the closest relatives in time have been the hardest to trace.
-
Hi
I think we have some relatives in common - ralph's mother is the niece of my great great grandfather. hope that makes sense. Ralph's great great grandparents are George Cockburn and Mary Lea Hush and it is their son Walter that is my great great grandfather.
I would love to hear from any of you that are related
-
Yes we will be related with that history. The Cockburn Family had a reunion in 1984 and a family tree was started by the organiser Rae Vernon of Roxburgh NZ and a ? Russell De latour but unfortunately I didn't get any further information. A skelton tree was there at the time and my Uncle and I were able to update our side. My Grandmother ( Ralphs mother) was Georgina Brennan and she had 3 sons and a daughter - my mother.
Would be interested to hear what you have found as they have all passed on now.

Hi
I think we've been in contact before about the cockburns. I am Sarah-Jane descended from Walter and Sarah Ann Cockburn.
