Information I have so far (mostly thanks to RCers)
David Francis Holland married Rhoda Julia Cooper
b 1875 b 3 Feb 1882
Preston, Lancashire, England Wellington, New Zealand
very probably a very good musician d 1969
came out to NZ when very young possibly daughter of
on the "Lady Jocelyn" landing in Lytelton in Dec 1879 Thornhill Cooper and Jane Rittson Lidbetter
son of
Wilfred Holland lancashire 1848 married 1872 Elizabeth Foy(??) 1849
David and Rhoda had 12 children that I know of. The boys were stunning musicians
They included
Fredrick David Holland 1907 Drums/Banjo
Stan Trombone ?
Laurence 1910 Sax and Violin ?
Bernard 1914 Violin ?
Philip 1915 Trombone ?
I would like to find out more information about what inspired the Holland boys into musicianship

Hi Kiwihunter,
I don't think the passenger list for the Lady Jocelyn is online for 1875, the Archives offices should have the passenger list and maybe the big libraries, you could check it for Davids parents names. Have you checked Free BMD
http://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl
-
I couldn't find a passenger list either. Have searched on BMD and have found
David Francis Holland died 1879 age 60 in Stoke Damerel, Devon. Possibly a lead? He is like 70 years before my guy...
-
Hi again,
Any lead is worth checking out :)
There is this link for Lancashire online parish records

Hi Janette, I don't know how this one will pan out, there are so many Holland records. I think that it would be better for me to go straight for the archive passenger list.
-
there is seems to be no Wilfred holland married to a Foy so that is a dead end.
-
OH NO! there are like 20 places called Preston in the UK.... that tears it. Will forget these two until I get another lead. Will get on the phone.

Found them

Elizabeth 30
David 4
James 1 month

I have started another thread in the Lancashire messageboard. Thank you everyone who helped get it to this stage. Will go adjust the title of this one as I am now looking for the musical info.....

You could put a new thread on the board asking for an Christchurch Archives lookup for Wilfred Holland's probate and will
