Hi Tricia,
Thanks for that lookup.
I have been to the archives at Halifax this morning and was fortunate to find Henry and Amelia's marriage, with their fathers' names on so with your findings I have a bit more to go at.
So Joseph was born before their marriage.
I don't suppose you have access to the 1851 and 1841 census do you? Her father was Jos - either Joseph or Joshua and mother was Elizabeth. I will try to find them but if I don't it would be a help.
Thanks again,
Lyn

Sorry I didn't put Amelia's maiden name - it was Ingham.
Also Henry's father was Abraham Binns - forge man.
Any help appreciated,
Thanks,

Alternatively Joseph could have been Amelia's brother therefore would have been brother in law to Henry.
Even more for me to try to piece together!!!!!

Sorry, can't help with those :'(
I think you need to find birth cert for Joseph to sort this out. He may well be Amelia's son but not Henry's. Personally if he was their child before marriage I think they would have called him Binns. I don't think they used son in law and brother in law as we do. In my searches it has always meant 'step'

Hi Lyn,
Joseph appears with his family on the 1871 census as Joseph Binns...guess that answers the question...well, at least he was the son of Amelia... ::)
Regards, Emma ;)

Hi Emma,
Yes he was probably registered as Ingham as Amelia had him before she married Henry.
Thanks for your help,
