Am searching for anyone with information regarding Alexander Bruce MacKenzie born 1868 who was a son of Roderick MacKenzie (Seaman) and Chirsty MacKenzie nee Macpherson who were marrried at Applecross in 1858. There may have been another son, Donald.
Alexander migrated to Australia.
Ring any bells with anyone?
Thanks

Hi Lyn
Per the 1881 Census, below: If this is the right family, it looks as if Alexander did have a brother Donald , also one called Kenneth, and a sister Margaret. It also appears his father Roderick McKENZIE was dead by the time of the Census. The age of children Margaret, Donald & Kenneth in Census matches IGI births to Roderick McKENZIE & Christy McPHERSON. IGI also has other children: Annabella(1860) and Isabella (1862) but did not find them on Census - possibly either died young or married by 1881.
1881: Inveralligin Road. Applecross, Ross & Cromarty

Hi Lyn,
Did you ever find out who Roderick MacKenzie's parents were? I have a Roderick McKenzie in my family tree from Inveralligin.

I believe Rodericks parents were Donald MacKenzie and Margaret MacLennan who were married in Applecross in 1830. Roderick was one of 6 children that I know of..
My Roderick was born 1832 .
Does any of that sound familiar to you?
Thanks

Hi Lyn,
Roderick's youngest brother Angus, born 1843, was my g-g-grandfather. He married Margaret MacDonald (she was from Airshieldaig) in Cromarty in 1872. The family later moved to Perthshire. Angus and Margaret's eldest son, Donald, married Jane Gibbons and emigrated to New Zealand in 1900. Donald and Jane's eldest son, Angus (my grandfather) joined the merchant navy and married and settled in Australia.
How are you related to the family?

Hi Lyn,
Yes we are related, cousins of some sort. If you send me an email to meganfranklin@northrock.bm I will send you what I have on the family.
I have been in touch with a Murdoch MacDonald who grew up in Inveralligin and has written a book about the history of the area and has also published a CD containing local genealogical data (I have a copy of both the book and the CD). There is not much about our family, but it does list Roderick's youngest 2 sons (Donald and Kenneth) as attending the local school. If you are going to Scotland next year, I'm sure Murdoch would be able to help you find anything or even (if you were really lucky) be able to show you around.

Hi Lyn,
I have a question re your Roderick Mackenzie and father Donald Mackenzie. Can you tell me if Donald could have been a grandson of a Donald McKenzie and Elizabeth Williamson?? (Donald and Elizabeth had a son Roderick, born 1771 as well as a daughter Mary, born 1774 and son James, born 1777 I think - James is the one I am interested in - I don't know of any other children at this stage but of course there could be many more....)
I am tracing McKenzie/Mackenzie's of Cromarty and have a possible link with this Donald and Elizabeth. Can't confirm it of course but if someone has them and can tell me that I have NO connection to them then that will help :D better to confirm the connection though :)
Regards, Chris.
