Hi
Does anybody know which library or archives I might contact, which might have trade directories for the Lincolnshire area please?
I'm trying to find out when a certain J.T. Boldon of Louth had premises in Upgate, Louth for picture framing.
I live in Yorkshire so would need a library/archives willing to look this up for me. I'm guessing it would be during the 1900's, but probably later than those available on the historical directories website as these only go up to the 1910's
Thanks
Jacky

Lincolnshire County Archive St. Rumbold St. Lincoln should have a copy, or the reference section of any Lincolnshire Library.

As you specifically mention libraries I would have thought logic would tell you to try Louth library first. :)

Sorry - just deleted my erroneous message.

Another point Jacky, If you live in West or South Yorkshire, or even York itself, Lincoln is within easy reach by train; well worth an enquiry.

Thanks for your helpful remarks everyone. And yes, Pam, pehaps logic should tell me to try Louth library first. I'm only glad you were there to point out how stupid I really am!

I expect that I've missed the logically obvious at least as many times as you have jackski, so move over in that dunce's corner and make room for one more. ;D

Nowadays I have a built in excuse "The senior moment"

Maybe so Roger, but Pam is still young :D

And I'm not THAT old Geoff, but I do still have senior moments, at least that's my excuse!

:-* :-*
And you're almost still (as) young (as me)! ;D
(n.b. to Geoff and self: Must remember Roger's excuse for 2030 - we might need to use it by then. ;D ;D)

I shall still be using it Pam!

Know this is an old message but really curious as to what your interest in my grandfather John Thomas Boldon is.

Hi
I have an old sampler which I have researched and found to be made by a girl living in the Slingsby area of Yorkshire. The framing of the item was done at a later date by J T Boldon, 32 Upgate, Louth. I was trying to find out when the framing was carried out. Trade directories would say when he was working from this address and thus give a rough date for the framing.
Hope this answers your question.

JTB seems to have died in Barnsley in 1929 but all other family events seem to have taken place in Louth.

Hi Jacky,
Very very interesting. I have always wondered whether any of his work was still around somewhere. He was previously a cabinet maker at least until 1894 and later an art teacher. I can tell you that he was a picture frame maker in 1900, 1901, but by 1904 he had diversified to be a stationer and fancy goods dealer (still at 32 Upgate). By 1905 the business was in trouble. So it has to be 1900 plus or minus five years. Do you still have the sampler and Frame?
