Welcome to Rootschat, GJfrom NZ. Lily who started this thread hasn't been online since Jan.2009 but I see you've started 3 McCloy threads of your own looking for McCloys- it's not that uncommon a surname in Northern Ireland so don't assume that all McCloys are related to your family :)

Thanks Aghadowey...Have been searching on and off for years for more info on our Alexander McCloy and because he and his sister Elizabeth were great supporters of the Catholic Church in Leeston,NZ where they lived can only assume their parents were Roman Catholic too...Yep have found a few and have lots of McCloy dates and names, but nothing concrete,...The only lead so far is a RC Baptism record for an Alexander McCloy with the correct parents.

Hi,whats the chances of Jannie Ann McCloy's Mother being Jane (nee McAuley)McCloy...anyone know any of Jannie's siblings? :)....Thanks for the info...GJ

Hi,
I do not know the wife's name and if they were R.C. civil registrations of marriages did not start until 1864 so you will have to depend on church records. Having said that I read your other post where you mention Alexander, possibly of Armoy. In the PRONI Calendar of Wills there is recorded the death of James McCloy, farmer of Ballybregah, who died on 13 Nov 1864. Probate was granted to Alexander McCloy, farmer of Ballybregah (Armoy), one of the executors. I don't know if there is any connection but it may be worth remembering.

Hi
This link might help. http://www.historyfromheadstones.com/index.php?antrim&denomination=RC
It shows all the RC graveyards that the Ulster History Foundation have surveyed. You can do a search at the website but have to purchase credits to see the inscription.

PS Enjoy your visit and make sure you visit the new Public Records Office in Belfast. Perhaps I might see you there.

Looking for info on John Lamont and his 3 wives, McHenry, McLeister and Jane Ann McCloy
My 1st cousin thrice removed is Jane McLeister, John Lamont's 2nd wife. Married in 1884.
1901 Census
24 Moboy, Lisnagarren.
Johnie Lamont 42
Jane Lamont 38
Thomas Lamont 15
Robert Lamont 12
Mary Lamont 6
Agness Lamont 5
James Lamont 3
Hugh Lamont 0
1911 Census
6 Aughnacleagh, Lisnagarren.
John Lamont 56
Jane Anne Lamont 48
James 13
Hugh 11
Maggie 9
George 7
Andrew 4
I initially thought it was her listed in the above censuses but this thread has shed light that it was wife 3. but this has opened up more questions.
When did Jane Lamont (McLeister) die?
Jane Lamont (McLiester)'s father was listed as William McLeister.
I could only see records of one McLeister/Lamont marriage. Knowing this I was sure The William Mcliester (My Great Great Great Uncle) and family also listed in Moboy Lisnagarren in 1901 and 1911 had to be her father as he had grandchildren with the surname lamont. But if
Jane Lamont (McLeister) had died how were more lamont grand children still joining the mcliester household. Can anyone help clear this up?

For reference here's McLeister household in 1901- grandson Samuel aged 13 born c1888 (hasn't been mentioned before in this thread)-
www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Antrim/Lisnagarran/Moboy/940204
Remember that the census lists the occupants in the household for one particular night and may not mean that Samuel always lived with his grandparents. However, it was not uncommon for children to be sent to live with grandparents or elderly, or childless, relatives. A birth certificate for Samuel would give parents' names and confirm (or refute) your assumption that he is a son of Jane Lamont & his wife Jane McLeister.
Household of Johnie Lamont in 1901-
www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Antrim/Lisnagarran/Moboy/940214
1911 census for widow Hannah McLeister with 2 Lamont grandchildren- neither of which have been previously mentioned in this thread.
www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Antrim/Lisnagarran/Moboy/123591
Again, birth certificates would confirm names of parents.

Will of Hannah McLeister (available from PRONI but not online) may help-
"Probate of the Will of Hannah McLeister late of Moboy County Antrim Widow who died 30 November 1916 granted at Belfast to William Richmond Farmer"
William McLeister didn't leave a Will but if you can check the file in PRONI it may make mention of how many children/how many living, etc.-
"Administration of the estate of William M'Leister late of Maboy County Antrim Farmer who died 2 November 1906 granted at Belfast to Hannah M'Leister the Widow."
