Hello
I am trying to find Rosanna Mary Stevens born abt 1858 in Fonthill Gifford, Wiltshire, England after 1871.
in 1861 she is in in Fonthill Gifford, Wiltshire, England aged 3 with parents and 2 older sisters
Thomas Stevens 32
Hannah Stevens 26
Sophia A Stevens 6
Emma J Stevens 5
in 1871 she is in Hindon, Wiltshire, England with the following family members
Thomas Stevens 42
Anna (Hannah) Stevens 36
Rosanna Stevens 12
Elizabeth Stevens 10
Louisa Stevens 8
Lot Stevens 6
Frances M Stevens 1
Sophia Ann and Emma Jane from the 1861 census are still alive and living elsewhere.
However sometime between 1871 and 1874 the family upped sticks and moved to a village called Forcett near Richmond in North Yorkshire.
I have the following Information on Rosanna's siblings
Sophia Ann Stevens 1854 – 1938 have her
Emma Jane Stevens 1856 – 1944
George Stevens 1860 – 1866
Elizabeth Stevens 1861 – 1898
Louisa Stevens 1863 – 1896
Lot Stevens 1864 – 1904
Alice Elvira Stevens 1868 – 1868
Frances Mary Stevens 1870 – 1938
Fred Stevens 1872 – 1872
John Thomas Stevens 1874 – 1930
William Stevens 1878 – 1906
Parents Thomas and Hannah along with all children who were surviving, either single or married all moved to North Yorkshire (with spouses where applicable) , however I have been unable to find anything on Rosanna.
I can't find a death anywhere in the UK, so can only assume that she moved up North with the rest of her family. I have not been able to find her on the census, or BMD's so am hoping for a bit of assistance.

Just a suggestion which you have probably already tried - have you looked at the census and free bmd using only her first name - no surname? It's a bit of a trawl if you use variants but you may pick her up from her birthplace/registration place.

Thanks for looking, I had stumbled across this.

I think I have tried all variants I could think of in both forename and surname. I might just have to leave her for now, can come back to her another time when I find a Wrecking Ball to smash this wall down with.

This is grasping at straws but there was an Annie Stevens marriage registration in Tisbury (where Rosanna's birth was registered) March 1879.

Hi,
I've just found your request for info on Rosanna Mary Stevens. Is her Father Thomas the son of William Stevens and Rachel Day do you know?

Gayle
Rosanna Mary Stevens would be the daughter of Thomas Stevens & Hannah Burt. Thomas being the son of John Stevens and Ann Newbury

Hi Emma,
I'm also researching Fonthill Gifford families. They all seem to be connected. My Gt Grandmother was a Jane Stevens. If I find anything about Rosanna during my research I will let you know. There is a Thomas Stevens born/christened 26 April 1829 but he is the son of William and Rachel Day.
Good Luck

Hello Emma,
I have been interested in your trying to find out what happened to Rosanna Stevens. I am the grandson of William Stevens born 10th May 1877 and who died on 1st August, 1906. I wondered what your interest was is the Stevens family? I have been looking at my family on my mother's side as she was a Stevens but I am afraid I haven't been able to find any more trace of Rosanna than you have.
Interestingly, I have found a story of two families who lived in Fonthill Gifford on the internet. Thomas Burt and William Burt, William being the father of Hanna and my great grandmother Maria. It is a fascinating story and well worth looking at if you haven't found it. Derek

Thomas Stevens and Hannah Burt are my 3x great grandparents. I descend from their son Lot.
I've not come across the story of Thomas Burt and William Burt if you can point me in the right direction that would be great :)

Hello Emma,
To find the story of the two families I put Fonthill Gifford into the Google Search and then choose "Fonthill Gifford in the Mid Nineteenth Century" from the list of subjects. I hope you find it.
I am convinced that Thomas and Hanna Stevens left Wiltshire to go to Forcett to find work in the limestone quarries. William also worked in the quarries until he became a professional cricketer. He died aged 29 having fallen off his bicycle reruning from a cricket match just over a mile from Richmond on the road to Forcett.
Last autumn I was in Durham, my grandson is at the university, and I visited Forcett Church in the hope of finding a sign of my grandfather William Stevens. I had an idea where to look from a photograph circa 1906, there was no sign of William but I found a small headstone, rather eroded, of Lot Stevens, do you know of this?
I have several photographs of Maria Burt who married James Hockett and Willaim who married Alice Hockett, his cousin.

Derek
I do know of the headstone, I have visited forcett and Eppleby too and only live 40 or so miles away
Were Thomas & Hannah the parents of your William?
Emma

Hello Emma,
Yes William was the youngest child of Thomas and Hannah, he is on your list of siblings, he was born at Eppleby in 1877.

It is sad to learn how William's life ended so young, his elder brother Lot also died young(ish) aged 39 2 years earlier albeit not in such tragic circumstances and their father Thomas died Tragically in 1897 after falling from his horse and trap.
