My Olley line first appears in Finchingfield and Toppesfield in 1640 with various baptisms; I have a transcript of Finchingfield PRs from 1617 and have also looked at the PRs online at Seax but these baptisms seem to be the 1st records in these parishes. Subsequently Olleys moved south to Gt Bardfield, Saling, Shalford and Rayne.
I am resigned to the fact that I shall have to go through the digitalised PR's on the Seax site for all North Essex churches but wondered if anyone had details of Olleys in North Essex in the 1600's?
Thanks
Mark

There was an Olley family as far south as Rayleigh in the mid 1800's.
A George Wright Olley was born in Rayleigh in 1867 and later went on to "marry into my tree". They settled in Wickford.

GW Olley is a 4XGreat grandson of the William Olley baptised in Finchingfield in 1642. GW had 7 aunts/uncles who did a good job of populating SE Essex with Olleys.

At the risk of encouraging anyone who has even the slightest of connections with the Essex Olleys to announce the fact here rather than actually help you in your search, can I just throw in Charles John Olley who married into my tree in 1887, in Burnham-on-Crouch in Essex? Did he descend from one of the 7 or 8 siblings that you've previously mentioned?
Sorry I can't help you with your original question, however...

I have 24 Olleys in my tree mostly from Billericay Essex back to 1720 if anyone is interested. If anyone can go back further I would be keen to know.
Many thanks
