Title: TNA Lookup for POW Interrogation Questionnaires
Post by: leoni2k on Tuesday 05 October 10 11:58 BST (UK)
Hi

I was wondering if anyone does any lookups at the TNA that could look and obtain a copy (if one exists) for the POW Interrogation Questionnaire for my grandad.  The details are:

Series Ref: WO 344
War Office: Directorate of Military Intelligence: Liberated Prisoner of War Interrogation Questionnaires.

Name: L/Cpl Whitehead, Robert
Army No: 4452090 8th Batallion RAC

POW in Stalag 4F, Hartmannsdorf, Germany

Thanking you in advance for any help.

Best wishes
Leanne   :D

Hi Leanne,
did you know that he was a P.O.W. in Italy in 1943.  PG 78 Sulmona was his Camp in 1943 but he would have been in other Camps previous to this.

Hi Brian

I knew that he was a prisoner of war in Italy from his Army record but I never knew which one.  He was a prisoner in Italy and Germany, according to his army record, from 28.5.1942 and returned home on 26.4.1945.  There is no mention of when he was moved from Italy to Germany.

How do you know which Italian camp he was in?

Regards
Leanne

Lianne,
I have every list of POW that was produced. Published and unpublished so it is quite easy to check.

As the Report confirms your Grandad was never in PG 78 it is quite clear that the POW Lists in WO 392 cannot be trusted 100%.

Not the first time I have come across mistakes like this.

Thanks for looking into that one, least now I know for sure to dismiss PG 78.

Would you have any information on Stalag IVB or PG 73 or know of any websites I could look at?

Regards
Leanne

Leanne,
the Camp being refered to is Stalag 4F not 4B.

Wehekreis 4  consisted of Stalags 4A Hohenstein, 4B Muhlberg, 4C Wistritz bei Teplitz, 4D Torgau, 4D/Z Annaburg, 4E Altenburg,  4F Hartmansdorf Chemnitz and 4G Oschatz.

In many cases these were 100s of miles apart.

Hi,
the link show you Stalag 4 in Hartmannsdorf, is the  office-center, the building is now down, only a part is now to see.
http://www.prisonerofwar.org.uk/winter_2004.htm
In a another part was two Baracken for the people.
You can go over google , so you can see the terrain, give 09232 Hartmannsdorf, Untere Hauptstraße in.
So you see at all.
Bye!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi,
Leanne, when he was in Stalag 4, perhaps he see my grandpa, because we live on the outside from this since 1929.
My English is not so good, where can I find your email address. So I can send you more picture from the 4.
When you have information over the time in Hartmannsdorf from your grandpa, perhaps write me, then can we make a information puzzle.
Bye Lutz

Hi Lutz

My email address is leoni2k@hotmail.com

Sadly my grandfather passed away in 2005 but I know he did have a friend called Matty (not sure of the correct spelling for that name).  Whilst in 4 my grandfather worked on the railways for a short time before working with the red cross parcels.

He was captured in Tobrok and went to an Italian POW camp until they surrendered and was taken over by the Germans and he then went to stalag 4B for a week before ending up at 4F.

Thanks, Leanne
