Title: Help to find mother in 1871
Post by: Janet B on Sunday 30 May 04 04:34 BST (UK)
 :) Hi
I am trying to find my husband's grandmother's mother.
In the 1881 census she is living in Preston - entry reads

James Simmons 40 b Deptford Kent - Storekeeper
Mary Ellen Simmons 25 b Preston - cotton weaver
Elizth Simmons 11 b Preston - cotton weaver
Inlaws
Mary & Joseph Larkin

James married Mary Ellen Larkin in Preston in 1874 but I cannot find any details of Elizabeth's birth or her mother's death.

Is the 1871 census of Preston available and could anyone kindly do a lookup for me to see if there are any details of Elizabeth's mother?

Thanks
Cheers
Janet  ;)

Thanks for that Chris - must have missed that one! That would make her 13 not 11 in 1881 but I am finding that no one seemed to know exactly how old they were.
Cheers

Hello Janet,

Have you found the family on later census returns, this would help confirm her possible year of birth.

Do you have any addresses that we could expect to find the family either in the 1891 or 1871 census returns ?

:) To date I only have the info posted other than the address they were at in 1881:

96 Murray Street
Preston

Is there a 1871 census available for Preston?
I just haven't had the time or money to spend on a birth cert. New grandchild Abigail Elizabeth arrived May 31!!

Any help with ancestor Elizabeth greatly appreciated.
Cheers  :) ;)
Janet

ps - Have just found her on 1901 census where see claims to be 33 - b 1868 which is probably the Elizabeth on the BMD. sorry must have been off with the fairies!! :-[ ::)
