Can any one please find me any information on Edwin Smart , born 19 4 1812 son of James Smart
Edwin was a Constable in Gloucester and lived in the St Catherine's Parish Gloucester city. His daughter Elizabeth Smart worked at the County lunatic asylum in wotton as a nurse (1861 census)
I am too far away to do any local research
Many thanks

Hi dochines,
I'm not sure what information you have already. Is what you wrote in your message all you know about Edwin and his daughter?
In 1841 there was an Edward Smart living Berkeley Street, Gloucester. He was 29, a Tailor and with him were Zappah 27 and Elizabeth 2. All born in Gloucestershire.
In 1851 they are at St Catherine St, Gloucester and Edwin was a Police Constable. Wife, Zepporah, b Elmore, Gloucester. Children, all born Gloucester were Elizabeth 11, Charles 9 and James 7. Edwin and Zeppria Smith married 1837. Edwin may have died Gloucester 1886.

Thanks Rae,
Sorry not to have replied sooner but my broadband line was down for 24 hrs-- rain in the cables!!
Yes I have now found most of this from the censuses, interesting the different spellings of Zipporah. I wonder if there will be any interesting material about his police career , whether his tailor business featured in any trade directories and whether any else could be found locally. Unfortunately I am at the opposite end of the country
you were most kind to look things up for me
