Can anyone tell me if The Old Dog Hotel, Church Street, Preston, is still there? An uncle was licensed victualler there sometime between 1921 - 1930, I would like to know something of it's history - and if SKS could possibly take a photograph for me.
Many thanks

-
It's still there, I live about 400 yds away from the pub so I'll take the photo tomorrow if I don't already have one on file
-
Very many thanks ricky1, jane l and Duck. This must be the one - I see it is The Old Dog Inn (not hotel). Your interest is most appreciated, and I have now had a look at the website and google map.
Duck - a photo would also be very much appreciated if you can oblige. Do you know anything of the history of the place - it must be quite old.
I wish I knew just when the Elijah Hampson (with wife Jennie - my aunt) was publican there. They were previously at the Buck Inn in Guisborough (to 1918 that I know) - also very old and previously a coaching inn, and after Preston they went to the Mount Pleasant in Blackpool (cnr High Street and Cocker Street I think) possibly late 1920s until 1947. Buck Hotel and Mount Pleasant still in business :)
Many thanks

The Old Dog Inn was a coaching inn, I will try and find out the history for you
-
I have just visited Preston Library and had a look at the Trade Directories that they have for the period you are looking at.
Out of the four, 1922, 24, 26 and 32, Elija Hampson (spelt lija) was only in the 1926 Barratts Directory as Publican of The OLd Dog Inn
I'm sorry I have been unable to photograph the pub, I've mis-laid the camera (which my OH isn't very pleased about). If you look at Google Images for the pub, there are one or two good photographs
King regards

just a thought you could contact the inn ask them if they know about it's history.
-
Many thanks Simon. I did find a couple of pics put not downloadable - however I will try Google Images. Thanks for checking the trade directories.
Jane l, I will see if there is an e mail addy for the inn, it's worth a try to write to them. (I'm not in the U K to phone or visit) However, past experience with other old pubs in the family I tend to find the present inhabitants usually don't know anything of the building's history - but I won't know if I don't try.
Many thanks

Thank you Simon and Jane for latest posts, I am very appreciative of all your help.
This thread has found its way on to Google, so will PM you both with data on my interest in this pub (and others).
Google imaged and found a nice pic just before I came back on here.
Many, many thanks for your input.
Noticed on Ricky's post on this thread he was only 56 - very sad.
