Would anyone be able to help me find any information about the Cherry family, Hartlepool, 1900's, I think the previous name of Anne Cherry was Burgon. Family included Henry, Jessie, Flora, Agnes but I would really like to know where Ann Burgon was born if anyone knows, I think Tom Cherry was born in Hull.
Thanks :)

Are we looking pre or post 1911?
Are any of these people likely to be still living as we cannot post any details if they are
-
Pre 1911 and no, none living. I have census information from the 1901 for the family but can't get past Ann Burgon and where she was from before she became Cherry.
regards

From the 1901 entry - we are looking at a marriage in the late 1870's - 1881 census shows a daughter Margaret aged 1
I will just post the full 1901 info for guidance as to the family history. All b West Hartlepool except Thomas
Thomas Cherry 50 b Hull plater - shipyard
Annie 44
Thomas 20
James 16
Annie 14
Jessie 12
Agnes 11

Where did you get Ann's maiden name from as I can't see a likely marriage on freebmd
-
From family, I thought it might be French as it was pronounced Burgoyn apparently. I'll check out that I have the spelling right and re post to be sure.
thanks for all of this :)
-
I have already tried that spelling and it doesn't match
Burgon/Burgoyne
I have also checked all Thomas Cherry marriages from 1871 -1881 in both Yorkshire and Durham and none match to anything like that surname
You really need one of the childrens birth certs to see what her maiden name was
-
That's interesting, I thought it must be me. I assumed they would have been married in the area of the children's births but will check this again. Thanks for trying, I am sure I could get hold of one of the children's birth certificates, naming her, hopefully will clarify either spelling of the name or whether I am off track completely and it was something else. thanks again,

Thomas Cherrey married Ann Burgon 1877 J/A/S Hartlepool
note the E before y ,
parents John and Elizabeth Burgon,
parents James and Margaret,
Or she is the daughter of Henry and Eleanor Burgon who were also from Berwick all these families are in Hartlepool 1861,census

Thomas Cherrey married Ann Burgon 1877 J/A/S Hartlepool
note the E before y ,
parents James and Margaret Burgon, in the census it says born Hartlepool ,but the rest of the family are born Berwick so I suspect Ann was born there to J/F/M 1856
Or she is the daughter of Henry and Jane Burgon who were also from Berwick both families are in Hartlepool 1861,census

Hi Radcliff
Why did you want to delete your post? I thought it was a brilliant piece of detective work and there is a marriage on freeBMD with those names too.

I appreciate this post is old however can help - though you may now have all the answers you need. Ann Cherry was my great great grandmother. She was indeed born with the surname Burgon, in Berwick on Tweed - in a place called The Greens in Berwick. If you get to go there, there’s a little pub with loads of Burgon information in it. They were fishermen and the Burgons were also part of the lifeboat crew and the lighthouse keepers too. Ann Cherry had a daughter also called Annie who married Joseph Nelson Dawson in Hartlepool. They are one set of my paternal great grandparents and I know a lot about the Cherry’s and Burgons and do have some photographs. Let me know if you need anything else.
