Title: 25th Regiment of Foot
Post by: Mofamily on Thursday 30 September 10 13:47 BST (UK)
Hi

Could anyone tell me which site I could look at to find a photo/picture of what the uniform looked like of The 25th Regiment of Foot.  My rellie was a private from 1811 - 1841.

Also, which campaigns would he have been involved in.

Hi Mo

The 25th Regiment had two battalions up to 1816. The 2nd Battalion fought in battles in Sweden (1813) and Antwerp (1814). The 1st Battalion were in the West Indies when he joined, but their main battles took place before he joined.

If you have his papers and it doesn't tell you which battalion he served in, you will have to research the muster books in Kew to discover his battalion.

Hi

Looking for information on a William Somerville born in wales around 1842.  I am sure his father Richard Somerville born Glasgow around 1805, was stationed at Brecon Barracks and was a Colour Sergeant in the 25th Regiment of foot.  Any help or pointers would be appreciated.

regards

Yes Richard was dischagred in 1845, due to ill health.  He had served for 22 years so must have married in the army and had several children, but cannot find any other reference to them, he returns to Scotland and marries in 1846, but only takes his son William, do you know of any way to find these records/

Regards
