I have located relatives living at 20 Chapel Yard, Scarborough in the 1881 Census.
Does anyone know where this is located as I have been unable to locate it on the Internet?
All help much appreciated :)

Hi Tony
Until someone with a better idea comes along.
Haven't looked at any old maps as yet, but Chapel Yard on the census was between Long West Gate and Cross Street. Both are still there on Google maps and also a Chapel Road so it woulod have been in that vicinity probably.

Hi
Looking at the census route, it was between Toller Gate and Long West Gate. At the start of Chapel Yard was a place called Ebenezer School

Thanks for all your help.
I will be in Scarborough for one day next week so I will have a look around the area, en-route to York for some research.
I have an old bible which was given to the relative and it was from The National Sunday School, so this may tie in with the Ebenezer School.

Good luck with your visit Tony. :)

Chapel yard was off Chapel road, which was between Cross st. and Queen street. In the area that is now between what is now Boyes and the council houses.
There was a chapel up there that burnt down in the great fire of Feb 26 1915, and which also destroyed Boyes Remnant Store.

I forgot to add, Queen st methodist church was built of the site of the Chapel.

and this is also Chapel road, continuing up from the 1st pic.
