Hi all,
I am researching George Frost who came on Fairlie.
Do you have proof that he was known as James.
Mary Donnelley had a daughter to a James Frost before she married Hennessey.
Was that James actually George Frost????

Hi Gayle
No I do not have proof that George and James are the same person.  According to some information in New South Wales Mary married James then George but there are no records of either and that they were brothers.

Thanks you for your reply, I have just found Mary having married after George died, do you have that information? Do you have a birth for Katherine/Catherine the daughter of James Frost & Mary Donnelly?
I have quite some information on the family so is there some way we can communicate personally? I am following the daughter Sarah Frost who married a Moffitt. I am also in touch with a researcher following Mary Ann Frost married to a Denney. I am a member of Gold Coast Family History Society, Australia.

Hi All

Im a  great great grandson of George Frost & Mary Donnelly
they married about 1842 at Kincumber, although no record found for the marriage
prior to Mary's marriage to George she had Kathrine FROST   with James Frost
no record found of that marriage or a death for James.
just recently i found  on the web parents for George as  James Frost and Ann Underwood
unfortunately I can not  relocate that info .
Mary Donnelly  parents shows as father unknown and mother Katherine Lake, Katherine Lake turns out to be incorrect  her parent being   James Donnelly & Ellen Dunn   according to the deaths of Mary's two brothers

........ they married about 1842 at Kincumber

This is highly unlikely.  George was still a convict and would have had to apply to marry, and he didn't get a conditional pardon until 1848.  He applied to marry Elizabeth/Eliza DOYLE and they married in 1843 in Gosford.

This is not the Same George FROST
My George  Frost and Mary Donnelly  had twelve children  first born Susanna Frost 10 Aug 1843  another daughter my great grandmother Charlotte frost born 1847  George died  02 Dec 1867  Noraville,  he was in Australia 33 years according two his death  certificate  that would be abt 1834

there has been some confusion  between George Frost and Elizabeth Doyle.

My George Frost  according to conviction born George Frost  age 20 Single Native Place Farnham Essex Trade Farm labourer
Crime House Robbery Charged at Essex Quarter Session 2/07/1833
on his twin son's birth certificate  states Georges birth plaace as Farnham Essex

12 Sep 1809 Elizabeth dtr of James and Sarah
22 Feb 1810 Benjamon son of James and Sarah
25 Feb 1810 Joseph son of James and Sarah
17 Oct 1814 Sarah dtr of Thomas and MAry age 1 week

11 Sep 1836 Sarah Frost widow age 35
8 Jan 1839 John Frost of The Union Stortford age 8

So it looks as if the James and George I highlighted survived childhood. See if they are on censuses, if so that rules them out as the people who were transported.

This is not the Same George FROST

The application to marry Elizabeth DOYLE records this George FROST as having arrived as a convict on the Fairlie.  If this is not the same George FROST, then your George did not arrive on the Fairlie.

I cannot see any evidence that George and Mary were together prior to 1847.  Susanna (born 1843) and James (born 1846) were both baptised in 1847.  From the NSW indexes, volume 64 tells me that these were Catholic baptisms.  It is possible that Susanna was not a child of both George and Mary.

Mary Donnelly  parents shows as father unknown and mother Katherine Lake, Katherine Lake turns out to be incorrect  her parent being   James Donnelly & Ellen Dunn   according to the deaths of Mary's two brothers

I see family trees on Ancestry which claim that Mary arrived on the Larne in 1841 with her brother John (parents James and Ellen).  That doesn't explain how daughter Catherine could be 7 months short of her 100th birthday in 1939.

https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/98610887

Perhaps Catherine was George's daughter, not Mary's.  I notice her obit says that she was native to Windsor.

.......prior to Mary's marriage to George she had Kathrine FROSTwith James Frost

Where do you see mention of James FROST as Catherine's father?

Is this Mary DONNELLY's death?

COUDREN , MARY  (CONDREN)
1542/1900
Mother: MARGARET
GOSFORD

If so then the certificate of her 1883 marriage to Patrick CONDREN would be a much more reliable way of finding her parents' names.
