Hi again. I have just looked in my message page and infact was sent a picture of Canalrow. I am not very clever with computer technology. If you can tell me how i do it, i will post it to you.
Many Thanks.
-
Hi
I'm not the one to tell you but I hope there is a rootchatter out there that can because that would be fantastic.
cheers cardiff ;D
Ps whats the info on the Smith Family?

It seems it may have been clssed as Eglwysilan rather than Taffs well.
Eglwysilan parish ran the east side of the River Taf from Cilfynydd down towards Taffs Well area and over the peak of the mountain towards Abertridwr , on top is the St Ilan Church.
I have added the link for the 1891 census below.

Hope this helps in your search.

HI
Thank you for the webb connections.
I actually know where cannal row was and the history of the area. Sadly removed like most of the glamorgan canal to make way for the A470!
I am really looking for a photo, infact yogga50 has a picture but did not get back to me. I have a photo from a distance, but live in hope of gettings a clear picture of Cannal row.
Cheers cardiff ;)

Well you can either exchange email addresses with yogga50 via PM, or post a picture on here if copyright permits. To add a photo to a post you click reply and then the blue link "Attach a photograph or image (and other options).."

Hello Cardiff :)
I sent a message to yogga50 last December :D
The only old pic I can find of Canal Row, Taffs Well is about 60 years ago:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/dr_jekel/4563554310/
The book is "The Glamorganshire & Aberdare Canals Vol. 2 Pontypridd to Cardiff"
Author: Stephen Rowson & Ian L. Wright
Maybe you could get it from a library?
Kind Regards

Hi
I was born in Canal Row or Forest Road as it was known in latter years, as was my father (1920). I have a photo taken around 1880/90 from the quarryside - it shows the the whole of the 2nd row and the top end of the first row. I also have a photo of a few of the houses at the beginning of the first row with my grandparents standing outside of No 8 in around the early 1940's. Another photo I have shows my grandmother taken in around 1953 in the back yard of No 8. I also have a few images of the rows in the 1960's.
If these are of any interest please let me know.

Hi
I'm happy to email them to you but not sure if no 12 will acually be visable. I have some slides which my father took in the 60's which show most of the second block where we lived. Sadly my father who remembered all the families who lived in the row during his childhood, died in July last year aged just a fortnight short of his 90th birthday - I think he was probably the last remaining of the residents from the early part of the 20th century. He lived in the Row from 1920 until we were forced to move in 1967. I have got a lot of memories of the houses despite only being 7 when we left !
If you let me have your email address I will be scan what I have for you - I 'm going on holidays the early part of next week but I don't expect I will get the opportunity to send them to you before I go.

Hi,
I was born in Canal Row (*) - only just bumped into this string and made me have a rummage around.
Found this photo on flickr - http://www.flickr.com/photos/johnmightycat/5870933428/in/photostream/
I have some photos from Canal Row - not very good quality, those Box Brownies were a bit primitive. One photo shows my Mum, brother and dog with the canal behind them and the railway bridge over the canal behind them.
Happy to send a copy if you'd like to pm - I'd also love to see any other photos of canal Row there might be out there.
Cheers
Mal

Hi,
What period did you live there ? My brother was born in the row in1953 and I was born in 1960.
Thanks for the link to the photo on flicker but I actually have that postcard - bought it about 30 years ago. Not sure if you have ever seen the books published by a vicar who was from Tongwynlais ? There were 4 in the series and they included a lot of photos of old Taffs Well. If you don't mind sending me your email address I will be happy to forward you the images of the row which I have. Incidently is your surname Thomas?
I don't think I can send you a personal message as I haven't made enough posts - well I can't find the pm option so I assume this is the problem.
-
HI Both
yes Glanteg you are right about the books, but sadly they are published anymore. I was also lucky to buy the four, the vicar did the books to raise money for St Michaels Church Tongwynlais.
maldwyn -glanteg has sent me photos but, will send you a personal message so I can get your photo's. Its a pity that either of you don't post a photo on this threat so we can all see.
cheers cardiff :) ;) :D ;D
Ps
Glanteg hope you take up my suggestion :)
