Hi Alana,
I am descended from an Angus Matheson and his wife Flora Nicholson, through their son Donald, as follows. Possibly the same couple you are researching. The below information was passed on to me whilst researching my Stewart ancestors who went to PEI (see http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~peistewart/). If you don't know this site it is worth taking a look as there are quite a number of Nicholsons and Mathesons mentioned. Hope the below will be of interest to you.

This is awesome information! thank you.
I know John had a brother Donald who came to PEI with him.
Do you know if was common to name two sons by the same name? IE two Donalds?
Im going to check out this site too!
Thanks again!

The traditional naming pattern in Scotland was to call the first son after the paternal grandfather; the second son after the maternal grandfather; the third son after the father; and the first daughter after the maternal grandmother; the second daughter after the paternal grandmother; the third daughter after the mother.
I don't know how closely that was followed but it could result in two siblings having the same name.
Another reason for two siblings having the same name is when the older one dies in infancy.

Hello, I think I am part of your family, my name is Joseph mathieson. I am from Edinburgh Scotland, I can send you our tree. We are retracing the family as both our parents have passed.
-
Hello again please see the attached file of our family tree. Our 4th generation grandparents were called Angus matheson and flory matheson nee nicholson. My father Duncan Angus mathieson died in 1998, he was a family if 10 siblings from Glasgow Scotland, he always said that his family were from kintail and Skye. I have 5 older sisters and one older brother. We never knew anyone from my dad's side of the family hence the fact we are trying to retrace. My dads dad was Angus moses mathieson and his mother was Mary matheson from tormichaig Skye and when she came over to Glasgow in the clearances the registration office miss spelled the matheson name, hence the fact we are mathieson. I saw your post this morning when I was looking at pictures of torminchaig. I do hope you receive this.
Best regards Joseph.

Hi, I am sorry I did not approve your images because they included details of folk who are living which is against our rules, perhaps you can crop that part of the image off ;)

Hi I have cropped out the living from the tree.

Hello we have worked out that our Angus matheson and flory Nicolson are different families. Our had a son named John also but he married Catherine Mackintosh on march 11th 1888. But John died in Skye tormichaig. We aren't sure if maybe he's went to Canada then came back to Scotland. I just thought it was strange about Angus matheson and flory. Her last name Nicolson is spelled different. To sum it all up we are going to Skye to see if we can find out anything else. We don't think John had a brother either.

I can assure you that no one in the photos is still alive, the boy Edward John Cutler died in Windsor 1975 (he would be 107 now if he were still alive).
Thanks, David

Hi Sarah, did you get my reply, the photos were taken in the 1920s/early 30s and all the people in it are dead now, none asre living, including Edward John Cutler the youngest, b 1918, d 1975. I am trying to identify two of the people in the first photo.
Thanks, David

Can you delete the mesage and I will repost it. I still don't know what the problem is as all the people are long dead, at least 50 years, but I will crop out the ones I am not asking about if that is what you mean.
Thanks
David
