On http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#p=home , a Valentine Godfrey is born 17 jan 1759 St Margarets Leicester of Thomas Godfrey and Sarah.
Valentine and Eleanor's marriage is there - 1821, as is Valentime's and Susannahs - Feb 1782.
Valentine (born 1828) has at least three brothers and sisters. go to 'Advanced Search' and just put in the parents' names and no date.
Valentine (born 1800) has 8 brothers and sisters .
Valentine (born 1759) has a couple (but if you just put Thomas as father and leave mother blank it brings up another one which is a possibility).
Hope this helps!
Cheers

Many thanks Goldie61 and Bunnygirl,
your help has been invaluable, not only has it given me information regarding the dates of Valentine and his family, you have given me another generation in Thomas Godfrey and Sarah, I now have an unbroken line from Thomas in 17?? (still to get dates) to the newest member of the Godfrey family which is his 8/great granddaughter Brooke, born in 2009.
Thank you so much

Thank you for requesting the Godfrey family info. I happened to be searching this family for a family member as Elizabeth Godfrey married a Hopewell and they ended up in Nottingham, Nottinghamshire and their daughter Lucy Bell Hopewell married a John Griffith and emigrated to New Zealand. So not a major focus, just idle curiosity to see where the name Valentine ended up. Funny to have two people searching at the same time and lovely to have such prompt help. :)

I have a Thomas Rawson, son of William, bapt in St Margaret's 1732. (His brother Richard was my direct ancestor). I have no further details of Thomas but obviously his age would fit the possibility that he was the Thomas who was father to Susannah Rawson/Godfrey. It might be worth looking into this?

Hi, I have just linked into this site, so apologies if I am a bit
My GGG Grandfather was Valentine Godfrey, from Leicester. But his exact pedigree is a puzzle
Born 1854, Leicester, in the 1861 census, aged 7, he is living with his step brother, John Godfrey, but his name is Valentine Smith Godfrey. So is he a 'Godfrey' or a Smith(I think that was his mothers maiden name) ? Why step brother ? In the 1871 census he is plain Valentine Godfrey
'My' Valentine did not follow needle trade and eventually worked as a moulder at Richards Iron Foundry in Leicester.
Does this confuse the issue- 'my' Valentine most definitely came from St.Margarets. His mother's name is recorded 1871 as Mary .
Cheers Brian

So this would be his marriage at St Margaret
Entry No.438, JUN 1, 1873, after Banns
VALENTINE GODFREY, 21, bach. MOULDER, of BIRSTALL St, s. of WILLIAM GODFREY, NEEDLE MAKER
RUTH SPENCER, 22, sp. of NORTH BRIDGE PLACE, d. of GEORGE SPENCER, ENGINEER
Wits: GEORGE SPENCER, HARRIET SPENCER
Valentine Smith Godfrey
1854 Jan-Feb-Mar Leicester 7a/166
If John 1861 married Elzabeth Meadows, his father is as John

Now, this marriage certificate needs correcting. Valentine's age was actually 19, not 21 (so as to get around the age of consent etc). He correctly describes himself as a moulder, as he worked at the Morris' Iron Foundry on Catherine St, Leicester.
His father I'm pretty sure wasn't William Godfrey. His " adopted" father I think was John Godfrey (1798-1858). His biological surname was almost certainly Smith. May be William Smith ? His mothers name was originally Mary Moore, born Brighton circa 1814.
No idea how she came to be in Leicester.
All the details for Ruth Spencer are correct.
All the best, Brian
