Any information on George Petherick who was born abt 1826.England. Married to Hester Chamberlain/Alcock. in New Zealand.
Not George Petherick born 1820.
Greatly appreciated as I am trying to sort out the George Pethericks.
They had a son George Jennings Petherick born in Picton in 1862.

Hi Suesyq,
If you purchase the printout for the 1876 birth of Alfred Ernest Petherick it should have the birthplace of both parents, what you should find on the printout is here,as this birth is after 1875 is should have more info on it

Thanks for the replys.
I have marriage print out for George and Hester but no names of parents on this. Also George Jennings birth certificate where it says the Ester Abcott is his mother.
There a certainly a lot of mix ups with names and mis- spellings.
Will order birth cert. for Alfred Ernest and see if I can get any more information from that. I think that he only lived for about three weeks.
Thanks for your help.

I think that he could have been born in Cornwall.

Hi Suesyq
Welcome to Rootschat !
Birth of Alfred Ernest was 14 Oct 1876, death registered 31 Jan 1877.
Note Janette's suggestion to purchase "Printout" of Alfred Ernest - not Cert as you have mentioned.
Printout will likely have more information.
Good Luck

There was a Mary Jane Petherick born abt 1876, waipawa, married 3 Dec 1894, at Herbertville, Hawkes Bay, to Alfred Whitehead, she died 16 Aug 1945 at Dannevirke, my late step grandmother's family. So do not have the marriage cert, can't locate her on the Reg generals site as Petherick.
Just in case she ties in with your lot
Regards Colin

I am researching this George Petherick also. He married twice. 1) to Anne Shirley in 1846/47in Wellington, they had 3 children - Phoeby Elizabeth, George & maybe Maryann. They divorced & Anne married a James Avison & moved to Hawkes Bay - Waipawa.
2) George married Hester Chamberlain in 1861 & had 8-12 children ?He died in 1886, I think. Hester died in 1914. George Jennings is Hester & George's son. Though there is also son George to Anne Shirley. It's very confusing.
Do you have any other information ?

This is certainly a bit of a mission trying to sort the George Pethericks out.
I have two copies of marriage certificates for George Jennings b 1862 in Picton married to Mary Jane Chapman in 1889 and one for George Petherick married to Hester Chamberlain in 1861. in Nelson.
This says that George's was 35 years of age and a batchelor when he married.. This would make his birth around 1826.
George and Mary Jane had 7 children that I am aware of. I have her in a Chapman family tree which only lists 7 children.
George and Hester had 3 children. George Jennings, Phoebe Minnette and Alfred Ernest.
On a death certificate from George and Esther.s son Ernest, it say's that George was born in Cornwall.
Here I have come up against a blank wall. I would like to know how the Jennings is connected.
The George that married Ann Shirley was born in 1820, and so I don't think these are the same person.
Would be interested in any information that you have.

If you search the NZSG FIRST FAMILIES LIST
http://www.genealogy.org.nz/FF_Search_31.aspx
you may see some possible matches for the families
look at the reference numbers and open the family box
it only gives you names, but you may be able to work out some more family groups

Also if you search at FreeCEn
You will see there are 2 George PETHERICKS in the 1841 census
Both aged 14, one in Cornwall, one in Devon

In Cornwall you can search at OPC database
there is a maariage to James Petherick to Elizabeth Jennings 1804 Helston
..just looking for ways that the Jennings got to be a midde name
they have a son GEORGE 1820 bap Parish: Helston
Date: 04-Jun 1820 Name: George PETHERICK
Different from the one I mentioned above in Cornwall his parents were William and Nancy
Maybe this 1820 one is the one mentioned in above post
The George that married Ann Shirley was born in 1820, and so I don't think these are the same person.

Thanks for your help. I now have information that the George that was born in 1820 is The George that I am looking for. Most probably the date on his marriage certificate was wrong. His parrents are the ones you mention. Elizabeth Jennings.

Hi Sue
I am also interested in Ann Shirley, my husband is descended from her second marriage.
Looking on the New Zealand BDM's and there doesn't appear to be any children recorded for George and Ann however the following children are recorded for George and Hester:
1874 Petherick Piercy Godfrey
1871 Petherick Augustus John
1872 Petherick Godfrey
1876 Petherick Alfred Ernest
1865 Petherick Phoebe Minnette
1864 Petherick Augustus John
The following birth to George and Esther:
1862/4465 Petherick George Jennings
Searched Mary Ann and George and none registered born to a George
https://bdmhistoricalrecords.dia.govt.nz
Do you have the divorce details for Ann and George?
Regards
Judi
