can anyone pick up thomas stewart born troqueer kirkcudbright 1865 on 1891 census. i got him working as servant in west calder on 1881...then got him again 1901.

i got him working as servant in west calder on 1881
Where his birthplace is given as St Maxwellton
then got him again 1901.
Where? I can't see a 1901 entry with the profile given. Was he married before or after 1891?
If before - can we have details of his wife and any children born before 1891

Maxwelltown is the main part of the parish of Troqueer. It's the opposite (and Kirkcudbright) side of the river from Dumfries. St Maxwellton looks like a bad transcription by a certain site!
so a Troqueer birthplace is correct.

I posted his 1881 birthplace as a sort of "warning" that it could vary from Troqueer so that anybody looking for him would be alerted to the possible variation

1901 census he's in glasgow with family, birthplace down as dumfries. all these places are very close together kirkcudbright/dumfries, maxwelltown...troqueer old districts.
his wife is ellen mudowney from ireland. previously married to a soldier called frederick rounsefull got this from thomas/ellens marriage in ayr 1894.... can;t suss out how they met though as rounsefull guy from devon we think dying 1890. if we can find thomas 1891 might find out how they met and married????

The 2 older children on the 1901 are presumably Helen's from her previous marriage although shown as Stewart on the entry. They were both born in England
Given the change of birthplace - are you absolutely certain you have the right 1901 entry?
-
Thomas didn't marry Ellen/Helen until 1894 - see :

If no one has found Thomas in 1891, lovelaj, I'll have a look tomorrow - had a long journey today and need to recover!

Hi Lovelaj
I've been looking through all of your previous postings as I was sure that Ireland had been mentioned before.
I see that you thought he'd moved to Ireland for the period covering the 1891 census - is that so?

my original thought was he'd gone to ireland and met his wife there....before we found him i nwest calder......and before we found her in devon.
got their marriage cert from 1894 in ayr. this confirmed by my grandads birth cert.
just can't find thomas between 1881 and 1894....think really need to look for him down south more.
you've confirmed though that first two girls are my grandads half sisters....thanks very much. don't worry about this when you're travelling.

Hi
I've just found an entry on the 1891 on SP for another family that's not on the other sources. Carole will confirm.
Have you tried the 1891 on SP for him?
I think I might take the evening off now - anyone for venison :)
