I would like to hear from anyone who may be researching this family.
Known marriages and associated families are:
1929 Michael Butler & Mary Byrne - Tullabrin, Kilkenny
1877 Patrick Butler & Bridget Brennan - St.Johns, Kilkenny
1829 Michael Butler & Catherine Donnelly - St.Johns, Kilkenny
This branch of the Butler's has a 300 year plus association with a small farm in Cloghpook.
I have checked the 1901 & 1911 census and spent a small fortune looking for records on the RootsIreland web site.
Ideas for additional avenues for research would be greatly appreciated
Thanks, Jim

Hi Jim!
I too am researching Butlers of Kilkenny - alas a rather gargantuan task! My great-grandfather Michael Butler married Mary Costelloe in 1873. Tracing his forebears has been very difficult, but I think there may be a connection with the Tullabrin (now Tullowbrin) area. According to his death certificate (1899) he was born 1849-50. The Costelloes were farmers in Tullobrin and through rental agreements etc I have established a sort of business link between Andrew Costelloe and Mary Quirke. Michael Butler married a Mary Quirke, both of Mount Nugent, (not necessarily the same person) in 1835 and they had at least 4 children (James 1837, John 1843, Michael 1845 and Michael 1849.
Do you have any indication that this family was connected with the one at Cloghpook?
Btw I found this in the petty sessions for 1851, through Find My Past:
Petty Sessions order books CSPS 1/5107
5th Dec 1851
Edwin Richards, Esq of Co Carlow against Michael Butler of Clohofook [Cloghpook?]

Jim, I happened to come across your post looking for information on the Butler's of Cloghpook, County Killkenny. Patrick Butler and Bridget Brennan were my great grand parents. If you care to contact me, I can share with you whatever information I may have, and I can tell you a great deal about their descendants. I have never seen the farm, and I didn't know it went back 300 years. My grandmother would have grown up on that farm. She passed in about 1955. She has a nephew who grew up on the farm who is now in his 80's. I don't know how long ago your post was, and of course, I don't know if you'll see this post. But, if you do, I'd love to hear from you. Thank you.
