Title: Migrant to USA - mystery
Post by: clarajo2001 on Thursday 16 September 10 19:34 BST (UK)
I've been told that my great great grandma was sent to the USA in disgrace as she had an illegitimate child.
My GG grandma was Sarah Priestley b1864.
Her daughter Elizabeth was born in 1884.

I'm not sure whether she was sent to the USA immediately after having her daughter but i can't find her on any British censuses after 1881.

Can anyone help me to find her.

I've also been told that she married an American but I don't have any details of this, the only other thing I know is that she came back to Britain & used to collect money from the local Post Office that had been sent from America.

What surname did she use when she returned to Britain?

We're not too sure as she had several marriages but it could have been Bastow however we have found a marriage to someone of that name in Britain.
She's a real mystery to us.

I'm sorry but I do not see any entry of Sarah Priestly to the US.

Do you have any other information at all?

There is no point having threads on multiple boards going over the same things (with slightly different details on each thread). If another thread is needed at some point (e.g. we find her in the US but then heading over into Canada so you want a thread on the Canada board), then you should link to related threads so people don't repeat searches which have already been done.
