Can anyone spot Maria Simpson in the 1841 census?
In the 1851 she was a widow in North Shields aged 36. Her children were William(16) Samuel(11) and 3 others (that were too young to show up in 1841). Her place of birth was given as Northumberland Ousburn, the children were all born North Shields.
I'm trying to find the name of her husband.
Cheers,
David

David have you looked at the new beta searh at familysearch.org yet. I found this entry which sure seems to fit your Samuel Simpson.
Samuel Simpson
Male
Baptism date: 29 Jan 1840
Baptism place: St. Hilda, South Shields, Durham, England
Birth Date 24 Dec 1839
Father's Name: Joseph Simpson
Mother's Name: Maria Simpson
I did not look for any of the other Children but this is just across the river so you never know. I notice a similar birth for Samuel two years earlier same parents so that one may have died. As these two places are very close together you may find further information on this family by checking it out.

Maria can often be found recorded as Mary and vice versa

Thanks for the replies.
I did suspect the father to be called Joseph because I had already found a marriage on the IGI of a Joseph Simpson and a Maria Simpson dated 23 Feb 1935 at St Andrews, Newcastle.
The important bit I missed off my first post was that I'd like to establish the age of the father so that I can try to find his family. I felt the only way to find this with the help of the census.
With them both having the same surname it may turn out that they were cousins.
Maria kept using 'Maria' through the census returns. She remarried and was Maria Dawson in the 1861, 1871, 1881 and 1891.
Fingers crossed someone will find them.

I notice that on the record of Bishops Transcripts for the Simpson marriage that an Elizabeth Simpson was a witness, as was James Edgar Holliday.
( There were 4 marriages in St Andrew's on 23rd Feb, James Edgar Holliday witnessed two of them, so perhaps connected to the church, rather than the couple)

Thanks for that Michael.
I'm working on the assumption that Maria was christened 12 Mar 1815 at All Saints, Newcastle and her parents were Samuel and Mary. Elizabeth was probably her sister and was christened 23 Nov 1814 also at All Saints. This ties in nicely with your findings from the BT's.
I believe that the marriage of Samuel Simpson and Mary Mallum (15 Nov 1812 All Saints, Newcastle) will turn out to be the parents of these sisters.

did you mean 1835 and was her maiden name Simpson?

so you think Marias husband name was Joseph he must have died 9 months to the last child being born to enable conception and betweent he 1851 census this can narrow it down his detah date, you knowe also the area in which they lived i.e. NOrth Sheilds which would narrow it down furtehr therefore how many Joseph Simpson detahs are there in this perios in this area and if you order his detah cert. this should give you his age or thereabouts)

Today saw (in Newcastle Library) transcripts of All Saints baptisms, including those of Maria and Elizabeth Simpson. Extra snippet of info was that Samuel is described as a " potter".
There was at least one pottery in the area of All Saints parish.
