Hi looking for my ancestor Thomas White, born Shropshire 1819 if anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated. I believe he came to NZ prior to getting married to Ellen Wilson

What year did he come to Australia,do you have an occupation for him?

I know he came to NZ prior to 1874 and worked with or sold Newspapers.

There are 5 pages of results in 1851 census non in Shropshire.Do you have any more information,was he married before?

He could have been and then widowed. He married in 1874 in NZ later than was usual.
Named son Francis Sydney so do not know if that helps.

Just in case the Thomas WHITE found on the 1851 does turn out to be your man, here is his Christening.

Saint Leonard’s Church, Bridgnorth. 29th January 1823. Thomas, son of George & Sarah WHITE of High Street, Bridgnorth. Wheelwright.

I suggest he is the Thomas WHITE, age 15, App, on the Bridgnorth 1841 census, working for a Benjamin MILNER, Saddler, a few doors away from his parent’s property.
