Hi, a friend has asked if i could do a quick search of her fathers family from Ireland. The Family is:
Gen1: Joseph Gillespie married 15/1/1859 to ????
there may have been 6 children to this marriage.
Mary Ann
Oliver
Henry (the grandfather)
Rachael
George
Joseph
Henry Gillespie married Angue (nee George) his address was known as 28 Frank St Belfast, Northern Ireland.
Anges died and the Children were put into an Orphanage. it is thought Henry remarried a woman in Christchurch NZ who also had Children but did not want his Children, Hense them being put into an orphanage. it is not known if they were put into care in Ireland or NZ
The Children of Henry and Angus Gillespie are.
Joseph
Alexander
Martha
Mary Ann (known as minnie)
Oliver ( her dad)
I have tried searching and can only find a Joseph Gillespie married to a Martha Ferguson, but not all the names are mentioned, and i am unsire if this is the right track. It is important to her to find some information of her history as she is unaware if there is any living relations left.

She really needs to work backwards from herself giving as much data ie date and place of birth and marriage of Oliver her father as possible. :-\
However there is
1881/12419 Gillespie Oliver Noel Helen William Henry (note William Henry is the father) in NZ
-
Well that can't be Oliver! ;D
Henry (son of Joseph) married Agnes George (dau of Alexander) in 1899 in Ireland.
Could this be him in NZ marrying in 1917?
1917/1204 Edith Jury Henry Gibbons Gillespie
I doubt you will get much closer in because these are coming into the 100 year time bar. :-\

Thankyou for the replies. I have provided the information she gave me below: because of the children being put into an orphanage, the family information is not known. I am currently doing NZ birth death & marriage searches for her. The ireland search i am having problems with. I am unable to search NZ 1939 onwards.
My Father Oliver Gillespie born 1909 or 1910 15th September at 28 Frank Street, Belfast, Northern Ireland.
Married Helen Strang aged 24 at Wyndham 15th April 1939
Grandfather was Henry Gillespie 28 Frank Street, address as above
Grandmother Agnes Gillespie (maiden name was Agnes George)
5 children – Joseph
Alexander
Martha
Mary Ann (known as Minnie)
Oliver
The mother Agnes died and the above were put in an Orphanage as old Henry married again I think to someone in Christchurch who had been married before and had her own children so didn’t want Dad and his brother and sisters hence the Orphanage bit. There was no contact at all again between old Henry as his new wife and Dad’s family.
Henry Gillespie’s own father was called Joseph and was married on 15/1/1859 in Ireland but don’t know her name
6 children from that lot – Mary Ann
Oliver
Henry (the above who was Dad’s father)
Rachael
George
Joseph

Would this be Joseph Gillespie and his wife MARY, plus children Minnie & John in the 1901 census at 44 Farnham St, Belfast?
www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Antrim/Cromac/Farnham_Street/969335/
Same address in 1911, except that Joseph is dead, leaving Mary a widow.

Hi,
Don't know if these people on 1901 Irish census may relate to the GILLESPIE family you are looking for
1901 12 Keatley Street (Pottinger, Down)
Henry GILLESPIE 31 (1870) Co. Armagh occ. crane man
Agnes 27 (1874) Co. Antrim
Joseph 0 (1901) Belfast
all Presbyterian
1901 44 Farnham Street , Antrim
Joseph GILLESPIE 62 (1839) occ. Clerk City Council
Mary 52 seamstress
Minnie 26 (1875) seamstress
John 22 shopkeeper draper
Can't place Oliver Gillespiebn15/9/1909/10 on 1911 census for Ireland with his brother or parents Henry & Agnes.
Here's the link for you to check out just in case I've overlooked something.

Do you know when & where mother Agnes died?
-
Hi, Thanks. Sorry there is nothing Known of the death of her Grandparents. Her dad and family lost contact with their family when put into an Orphanage in Christchurch NZ.
-
Not sure about this, Armagh not Antrim, but here's a Joseph I think may fit age wise, with family names which tie in.
A widower by 1901
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Armagh/Carrowbrack/Knocknamuckly/1027764/
BUT in 1911 he has given details of his number of years married, children living etc. PLUS there is an 8 yo grandson Alexander Gillespie.

Joseph Gillespie (father's name Glen) m Martha Ferguson (father's name George) 1859 in Co Down, so far so good. None of their children are recorded for Co Down as far as I can see, will have a look elsewhere.
Edited to add Martha's surname of Ferguson
All children born Armagh

The children's births which tie in ages with those census records (can't find Mary Ann's birth but if her given age is correct per census she would have likely been a twin to Henry or born within the year)
Henry b 12 March 1865
Rachael b 24 June 1867
George b 12 September 1869
Joseph b 22 July 1872
Yes found her Mary Ann Gillespie b 1865 Armagh - Civil Indexes
