The bets thing to do is to try cemeteries in the Croydon area. There may be a few in the area though as being close to London it was already well built up by 1946. Very few cemetery registers are online for this time frame though.

Hi
The help guide on the London and Middlesex board
A Guide to Burials in the London area
gives links to the records of all civic cemeteries in the Greater London area including those in Croydon, the date the cemeteries were opened and whether any transcriptions exist online or otherwise.

Croydon Crematorium was established in 1937. Unless you are sure he was buried you need to ask for a search for both a burial and a cremation. Burial and cremation registers are spearate so if you ask for a burial search that will mean if he was creamted that would be missed.
