Hi Berri

Thomas Deakins who was born in Buckland in 1838 is the brother of my Great Grand Mother. His parents were Thomas & Elizabeth as your rightly stated. I have no record of Thomas after the 1851 census.

However, Thomas Deakins who married Rachel Franklin (see tiggi's post below) is the subject of a book called 'old ways, new ways' by Lindsey Marsh & Rosie Smith who are descendants of THIS Thomas.

We (Lindsey, Rosie and myself) are desperately trying to prove that the two Thomas's are the same person, so if you have anything to prove this we will be grateful  ;D

Tiggi - someone has just sent me a post asking about the Sampson Hoadley in your post. Apparently he married a Matthews. If I can trace this then the Thomas with Rachel is definately MY Thomas as his sister married a Matthews.

Hi, reading with interest as Thomas Deacons and Rachel Franklin are my husband Paul Deacons' 2nd Great grandparents. I realise this is an old thread but Paul has recently DNA tested and I have added his Ancestry DNA test to MyHeritage and Gedmatch, too.
Regards, Debbie  :)

Debbie,

Paul is a match on Ancestry to my father Ray Roberts. My Great Grandmother was Lizzie Deacon from Sussex.

Maybe these different Deacons are related as I have always thought.

Regards

Paul

Hi All - I know this is a longshot due to the length of time this has all been posted but have just found out whilst researching my family tree that my great aunt Louisa James married Abraham Deakins in 1905 son of Thomas and Rachel.  Looking for any information on these i.e. children and where they lived to try and get some more information.  Any help gratefully received.

Hi Debbie Thank you for coming back to me.  I have been on Ancestry and found the Deakins family tree and also found Louie James on there.  It has been a bit confusing on Ancestry because I didn't realise she had been married twice to a Charles Marney in 1916 so I found 2 Louie James with the same dob and parents but different surnames.  I see Louie had 1 daughter Rose with Abraham but not much else.  Can you find out from your in-laws if Louie had more children or more inportantly a photo of Louie and her children to add to my family tree.  It would be lovely to put a face to the name.  I did here that Louie died in the same house where her mother lived in Queens Road. Maybe there is a photo of her parents somewhere?  It appears Rose married a Ben Eastwood - are there your in-laws or that line?  Any info would be lovely.   Thank you Debbie best wishes Waynus

Hi Waynus,

I don't have any photo's I'm afraid, it's my husband's tree and his sister probably has them somewhere.
I found Louisa and Charlie Marney were on the 1921 census alone, with no children.
Daughter Rosie was married to Benjamin Eastwood in 1930, but were living as man and wife by at least the 1921 census.

DNA would be the way forwards, being Travellers, I can't guarantee that Louisa didn't have other children with either Abraham or Charles, whether they survived or not, either, I really coudn't say.

Kind regards,
Debbie
