Title: Incoming posts and losing latest posts
Post by: Ringrose on Monday 13 September 10 09:31 BST (UK)
This is totally my own fault in not thinking what Im doing. It is very convenient getting an e-mail showing an interest in a post but---I open it--read it and go back to e-mails forgetting to look at the latest posts which I have now lost.
Sometimes looking at all unread posts takes an age to come up and I get so annoyed  with myself. Anyone else have the same prob????

Can't really understand the problem. You are getting email notifications, look at the message and then go on to do something else- can you not just then go back to the email notification you've already read and click on the link?
Another option is to log into Rootschat and click on show new replies to your posts at top of page under show unread posts since last visit.

I think your suggestion of clicking on to new replies to posts is how Ill do it in future. By going back to e-mail you have come out of Roots Chat and when you immediately go back to Roots Chat there may be one or two latest posts and the rest have gone.

By going back to e-mail you have come out of Roots Chat

I don't have that problem, I have a window open for email and one for Rootschat.

Oops, think I have misread the question, should wear my glasses :-[

If you miss any posts, you can click the link at the bottom right of the page, "Show unread topics" This will bring up some 5000+ pages, if your machine is fast enough to cope.

Yes! I do have the same problem - frequently! Lost count of the times I've logged on, then had to go off before I've got through even reading the headings in the dozen or so pages in the list.

I've never noticed that button. Will look for it now. Wish there was an 'active topics' button or a button or such like.

Best of luck Ann, my old machine XP Pro, 1.6GB processor, 768MB Ram struggled and could only get these pages when the site was quiet. The new machine, W7HP,2.3GB Processor, 4GB Ram has no trouble with them.

On this new machine I make howlers like that so often I usually re-read the posting to see if it makes sense. Not doing this one though, so expect it will be OK

Thanks for the tip, I'm forever losing the "unread mail since last visit" because I get sidetracked into following something on one of the new threads.  When I return to the "unread mail" the thread has often "disappeared" ::)

Just tried your tip and there they all were all 5000+ of them.

Learned something new today :)

Tip:  before clicking on a link, hold down the Control key (firefox). This opens the linked item in a new tab. Read the topic, close it, and you are back in your original tab and can click on the next item in the list.

This is a general rule and applies to any lists with links, not just to RootsChat
(handy for search engine results. etc) :)

ps
in Opera I have to hold down the Shift key.
I don't use Internet Explore much but when I do it opens a new window, rather than a tab.
