Title: Missing relation
Post by: nameseeker on Saturday 11 September 10 08:40 BST (UK)
I am trying to find out what happened to my cousin's grandfather William Richard Roberts, b1877 in Chirk Denbighshire, a coal miner.
In 1906 at Chirk he married Sarah Jane Jones. In 1908 their son was born, then two or three years later he left them and has not been heard of since.
I have checked the WW I army deaths with no luck.
When did he die, and where, did he remarry (bigamously?) or could he have changed his name.

Hi nameseeker,
welcome to rootsChat.
I think we need to get this post moved into North Wales and then start looking for your elusive William Richards Roberts,
cheers,Billy.

Hi there,
There's a William Richard Roberts in Ffestiniog, Merionethshire, 1911.  http://www.1911census.co.uk/
There's also a Sarah Jane at Ffestiniog, but she's only 22. (plus a couple of Sara Janes aged 2 & 3, one could be a daughter)
Was your Sarah Jane that much younger than William?

Leonie.

Have you thought about him possibly emigrating, maybe even to Canada?  ???

Crossing the Canada/US border into British Columbia, Aug 1911 is W R Roberts, 37, miner, born N Wales, destination ?  could be Yukon, but I can’t read the handwriting.
There's other border crossing documents of William Roberts from Canada to the US and a couple of them state "no relatives".  Just a thought...
