Title: HMS Delight
Post by: jayjay11 on Friday 10 September 10 23:20 BST (UK)
My Great uncle William Gibbins died in 1940 at the time serving
on H M S Delight
his name is on the navel memorial in portsmouth
as  Died in portsmouth Harbour , body never found
i believe that there was an inquiry into the loss of the Delight
in 1940 and as William had no children there is no direct next of kin
is it possible to find out what happend to him and his ship
also can i find out if he received an medals duering his service

OK i found some of it
HMS Delight   A D class Destroyer was attacked by German aircraft on The
29th July 1940 in the waters off portland bill and sank the next day in portland harbour
during the attack she lost 6 of her company
i can only think that William was one of them

Infact 13 of her crew were killed or posted Missing Presumed Killed. Gibbons is one of 4 who were not found (hence MPK).

Though this page says 6 lost the site site lists all 13 who were killed, on another page:
