Title: my family tree
Post by: dee h on Friday 10 September 10 16:42 BST (UK)
my late grandad was george john gray, born in Durham, 1st or 2nd cousin to the footballingCharlton s, I have very little family knowledge eg his parents, grandparents etc
He told me when i was younger that he was their first he even looks like them, I also know that his tree links with George Stephenson as in the Rocket
I think one of the Milburn sisters or aunt that married a Gray, I know that my grandad had at least 1 sister, he was married twice the 1st no details known and the second being my grandma Audrey who's mother was on the stage ( Alicia-Maud Ray )
My grandad was a referee when he moved to Nottingham for Notts County fc
I will post a picture at a later date
anyone with any information please let me know

Hi and welcome to rootschat
I think you should look at www.freebmd.org.uk and see if you can spot the birth registration for your grandad and that would help us to know what census years would be helpful.     I am afraid you have lost me a bit with reference to Charlton and Milburn families.  If you mean the footballers then they were born much later so possibly a later generation if they are connected?  I am sure there will be details of their families somewhere online if you google them.
As gortonboy says we are very careful not give any details of living people on our posts but if you have your mother's birth certificate that will give her mother's maiden name so you should be able to find that marriage.
Regards
Andrea

If you use the combination of Charlton and Gray on the free bmd site you will find quite a few marriages with these second names, 1919 to 1930,
I cant name  them here as the people could well still be living ,give it a go you may pick some thing up there,
