Does anyone have any information on my ancestor John Butler Furlong who was a schoolmaster at a commercial school on Church Street, Slough in 1876.

Well, this had to be my ancestor, but I'm trying to work out how old he would have been. I thought he was born around 1869, so something is wrong somewhere. The 1881 census has him age 12.

I got the Slough info from the following:
J.G. Harrod & Co.'s Royal County Directory of Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Berkshire, Oxfordshire, Huntingdonshire, and Northamptonshire. [1876]

Hi Andy. as that directory by the look of it covers Luton, could it be a Luton John b 1830/40ish?

Remember the Furlong family were heavily into schoolmastering.

Any chance of a brief snippet of what the directory says?

Had to have another go for Albert, as could not find a likely death, found this on 1901:-

Albert Furlong 23 occ Basket Maker blind from birth b Upton Bucks

He is a boarder with George Bryan aged 43 and family, who is a Street Musician Blind from Chilhood.

Residing at 3, St James Square Northampton
Census Ref RG13/1426/73/25.

I wonder what story is behind this pairing!?

Last for tonight possibly Andy, whilst  Albert was with his parents and siblings in Lancashire on the 1881, a George Bryant aged 24 Blind and born in the same town as the 1901 George Bryan, is in the Union Workhouse Buckingham.
Census Ref RG11/1485/23/'40

So IF the Albert up in Salford is the Albert on the 1901, how did he get there!

Folks

Have just come across this, so some further info.

James Tuder Thomas and Elizabeth Ann Tuder Furlong (nee Thomas) were the only children of James Thomas (a farmer) and Martha TUDER. Martha was the illegitimate daughter of the wealthy Lieut John Kelly Tuder RN (1787-1845) of Jameston/Manorbier in Pembrokeshire and was raised by him. Elizabeth Ann Tuder Thomas   was baptised at Monorbier on 22 October 1848 and married John Furlong in Pembroke in 1875.

I have only researched one of their offspring, Kelly Tuder Furlong because of the continuing use of the name Tuder, even though it has been corrupted into the common TUDOR spelling. Kelly married Elizabeth Mary Davies in 1903 at Merthyr Tydfil and they embarked on the "Oceanic" at Liverpool for the USA on 27 January 1904, becoming naturalised US citizens in 1918 (ref US census 1920 and 1910) and shipping records. They made more than one trip from UK to USA.

Lieut John Kelly Tuder RN is/was my G-G-Grandfather
